And so the game develops.
Nice writing.
Not so sure about closing the Bonnie Brae for golf practice - and no complaints at all!
No win - no wedding? Did anyone believe that?
Best wishes.

Except for the guests at the inn portion, the tavern portion of the Bonnie Brae would routinely close for business on Sundays, not just for golf practice.
Yeah, I don't really know how much people believed they would postpone their marriage. Not even sure how much they believed it. I think it was mainly a ploy to get the team to try harder to beat the Snogs this year.

Great stuff as usual. Enjoying the threat of gowf being banned by the king. I guess this is true? Looking forward to the match. And good luck with your book in the voting for Book of the Month.

Yes, this was a true event. In fact, this was the reason I chose this particular era in the history of the game to jump into. Similar proclamations were made several times hence, which tells me it wasn't seriously followed.
I appreciate your good wishes, John, but I'm afraid the story just doesn't have a wide enough appeal to do well at the voting booth. One of the best-written novels going on this site is J. O. Baumgartner by Lyle Nussbaum, which it appears you are also reading, but as good as it is, it only has a few followers and never even makes the voting list.

I like Iris too.

Yeah, she was great. Such a shame she couldn't overcome her grief.

Now we are starting to get into the nitty gritty of the competition. It must have been interesting to see the game develop and become what it is to this day. So now they are getting into the organisational side, officials are really the important furniture in the game, for its function. Beautifully written Jim, blessings Roy

The proclamation by James II in 1458 was the main reason I chose this era for the time travelers to jump to. This was one of the early known facts about the game.
I'm not really sure when the format I described here as well as the other ones coming up in the next chapter came into being, but hey, I'm the author; I can do what I want, right?

Absolutely, speculation is fine,
