This is a stage at which most young people have relationship problems. There are so many kinds, it's a bit like viruses. You were fortunate that Christie seemed not to suffer. kay

Thank you. Christi was always complaining about something so it was hard to know if she was really suffering, but she still the guy in Australia who wanted to come visit in the summer.

A good example of foreshadowing. You will have the reader's attention wondering what happened:
"Carol hadn't had competition for his attention in the past, so her summer didn't turn out the way she'd hoped." You have brought out some important points.

Thank you Liz, Much of what they'd hoped for goes in a different direction than they planned.

Life can be hard sometimes for all of us, but hopefully in time most everyone can look back and learn from their past experiences and move on. But many times, some parts remain unforgettable, even many years later. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ric. I think they learned some hard lessons but they still screw up sometimes. They are reasonablye content, but I think my life has been better than theirs.

A college offers more education than just the curriculum offered by the school. Some lessons are hard, and as much as parents try, kids of every generation seem to know better, until they don't.
Thanks for sharing a hard and growing year in your children's lives.

Although I wish it were for a more positive reason, I will look forward to that next chapter. I knew he'd be in trouble once he met the girl's parents. I remember how nervous i was meeting my wife's parents. I asked her what her father said about me, and Rhonda said, "He said at least he has a job!"

Don seems to be a levelheaded young man and no doubt he has and is propitious with a job today. I like your bio of the kids and the times. So typical for many. Good one, BETH

We try and point our kids in the right direction but they don't always take our advice. I hope your children are settled into good relationships and careers now Beth, and piece to the puzzle of your life Beth, much enjoyed, love Dolly x x x

When are you going to post pictures of your grown children, especially Don. You were right about visiting Kelly's parents, but sadly our children have to find out the hard way. I'm anxious to read about the auto mechanics class.

I've missed your family, Beth, so it's been a pleasure to become reunited with your children again! So many changes and decisions here - I continue to admire you and Evan for keeping all those plates spinning as best you could while coping with teenage hormones. Small edits: para starting Don was able to get himself a job... 'other friends;' para starting Unfortunately...they end(ed) up. There was something else, Beth, but I can't find it again. Thanks for sharing this interesting update. Debbie

Thank you Debbie, I'm glad you like reading about my family Thank for pointing out the errors. I fixed the two you mention plus in the last paragraph I found a spot that needed commas. I hope it may have been the other.

Wow, as parents we reach a point where we have to step back and watch our "young-adult" children find their own way. It's often as tough on us as it is on them! Still ~~ you and I both know that if we "told" them they were making poor decisions they'd run "toward" that, not away from it! I hope this was all a phase!

Thank you Karenina. Yes, at that age you might state you opinion, but you know they will make their own decision. It is hard watch them suffer. You can offfer tea and sympathy, but that is about all.
