That explains how Ben got into this situation. Already he has started to make his mark on the crew, and they will respect him more for not choosing not to escape. Reminds me of Paul on his missionary journeys.

It seems as if God wants Ben to go to China, or does this ship return to California? Ben could have escaped but apparently feels God wants him to go on with the ship. I wonder why?

There is so much texture to your novel, Wayne. There is a lot that bubbles up from just beneath the surface: Andy, right at the end of the chapter, who gives Ben his out, which Ben of course refuses, but it's his little comment that the crew would turn a blind eye (or ear) to the sound of his body going over the side that suggests their love and respect for their Chaplin. All so subtly powerful.

I love the way you've made this story as quick moving, never allowing Ben a chance to settle, (not that this character would want to) he now is having spiritual adventures on the high seas, preaching every week to men rejoicing, who have rarely heard the word, with all the excitement and dangers of the road, well done, Wayne, blessings Roy

This flows very well even though it has totally changed direction and style. Perhaps that's good in a novel, I'm not sure. Ben seems to know a lot about many subjects. Where does that come from I wonder. kay

Another fine chapter here although I did get a bit lost in some of the dialogue at times. Ben continues his calling on the ship but has an opportunity to swim to safety on shore. After considering this a little longer than he wished, he opts to stay put because, whatever the consequences he faces, his role as chaplain takes priority. Since there is never a dull moment in your story, Wayne, I await the next chapter with anticipation... Thanks for sharing, Debbie

Thank you. It's a bit more than just being the chaplain, though. He senses his calling telling him to stay.
