So, you haven't heard of "the terrain theory"
Imagine you have several magnifying glasses.
Throu the weakest you see people who live under high voltage.
Or too close to fields sprayed with pesticides.
The Terrain is our body.
Dr. Zack Bush explains how modern farming is poisoning everyone.
Modern soaps, cosmetics, the water we drink is full of hormone disruptors.
The air is full of chemicals.
That is the cause of pandemics.
Our weakened bodies.
What do you think.
:-))Z.

I think those things contribute, Z. They are a few of many causes. Eating our fellow Earthlings has introduced countless deadly plagues into our species. Our immune systems are failing due to the success with which we've learned to shield ourselves from things our bodies would otherwise learn to guard against. But I think the biggest causes of grief for our species as well as all others are our greed and our failure to see ourselves as dependent upon, not conquerors of, our environment... something every other species seems to get.
    Cheers,
    Craig

You're right that the "virus" that is most dangerous isn't Covid or any other virus. But it is the greed of human nature that has been destroying the planet and other humans. Well said in your acrostic poem! Best wishes in the contest!

We're not being honest if we don't all admit that we're all afraid of each other. I agree that we are scary and since the Grace of God allows us to have pets that make us look good, it is proof of some hope for us. Excellent writing! Best wishes!

Totally agree with this statement: "Humanity outgrow our selfish ways.

Of this I'm sure--our problems we must solve,

Before we hasten in the end of days.

It's time to mend our ways or we may see

All life on Earth fade into history.".Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the contest.

Yes, Richard, what has the world come to, and this is no cliche. Our hard fought for democracies are under increasingly threat. Gun and almost daily shootings of adults and most disturbingly children seems to be the norm in one of the leading country in the world, who still prides itself to be a democracy. But for how long, I wonder, if a certain former president has his way.
Your acrostic address that and so much more. Good luck. Ulla:)))
Ps, I'm half American, by the way. Not so sure what I think about that anymore.

Well, I'm 100% human (although many would question that), and I'm not sure what I think about that any more! Thanks for the kind comments, Ulla :) Cheers, Craig.

Hello again, my friend - I won't mention the Ashes today, as you pretended not to know the phrase last time!
This is very good! Joined abab quatrains to form anthropophobia (easy for you to say!) I think my spell check just had a breakdown. Smoke from the keyboard? Oh my! (Sorted. I poured my tea over it.)

Countless dystopian sci-fi stories and films have invaders describing us as an 'infestation' of our planet - to be eradicated by terraforming or similar.
There is some truth in that - and in your excellent poem - we have not proved to be the 'stewards' God designated in Genesis 1 and 2. As in your picture, the horses look to the man for wisdom (but don't receive it), so the human race blew it first in the Garden - 'fell at the first fence'! - and have been falling ever since. Not long now before we hit the bottom!

Thank you CD for this timely warning, so elegantly enshrined in your acrostic.
Paul

Hello Paul, good to hear from you again :)

I'm not overly concerned about all the silly nonsense (from both sides) that's been happening on and off the pitch - one team will be taking the ashes home with them and one won't!

Now that we've swept the pool at the swimming, I'm just hoping that the Matildas and the Lionesses (I think?) both make it through to the final of the soccer (sorry, football) - wouldn't that be something to see!

hmmm... that might be enough on the sports front.

The poem is actually a sonnet, although without the usual breaks (the word spelling would be out if they were included), it's not that obvious.

Thanks for the most enjoyable review! Craig

Yes, I think I spotted the sonnet. Didn't I mention it? Tsk!
having seen how poor the USA are, I'm expecting Sweden to demolish them next game. And yes - it would be an absolute honor to beat you guys in the final!
    Keep well, Craig.
    Back soon. Paul

well, I love your reference to the "people" in Swift's Gulliver's Travels - a perfect description of our present and most unbelievably corrupt and ruinous government in American history!
What is happening in Australia? Besides the fact that the gov't took your guns!

    Hi Katharine,
It may come as a surprise, but the vast majority of people here are ecstatic the government took our guns, and we went 30 years without a mass shooting, rather than some places where they are a daily occurrence. Did you know there is only one country in the entire world where the leading cause of fatalities among school children is firearms? Sorry, probably not the right person to address that issue with. In any case, no hard feelings, I hope, and I appreciate the kind review :) Craig

of course, no hard feelings, but I live alone and San Antonio has gotten many of the illegals pouring across our border every day - gangs, you name it, and If needed, I will defend my home. And anyway, the gov't has no right to take them.
But I'm glad for you if it's working there.
