It's so sad that the dinners' food got stolen. Why does this happen because of poverty? I know many unfortunate people suffer in the world. Here in the cold Minnesota, we still have beggars in the summer. I'm glad your problem has been fixed due to expensive security service. I might come to experience that soon.
Well done.

No it?s not people stealing the food. It?s birds - seagulls. The dogs chase the birds away so people can eat in peace. But thank you for reviewing.

An amusing story about the seagull problem and what a unique fix. It amazes me what they can train dogs to do. Now I'm wondering if they could train them to get rid of the bats from our local once beautiful park.
Enjoyed your story Wendy
Cheers

I suspect they could be trained for that if the bats are on low tree branches. They are highly intelligent. Suggest it to your local council and see what they say. Thanks for a great review.

I have eaten in the restaurants on Sydney Harbour and it is a beautiful setting Wendy. Lots of wonderful seafood. I had no idea there was such a problem with the seagulls and they can be so cheeky. Recently on our holiday in Dorset they would circle the swimming pool as people were eating food on their sun beds and seagulls came really close to steal food! They are brave and can be a nuisance. You made me smile here Wendy, love Dolly x

That is a high-priced fix. A decorative netting might have been a one and done cost, or a boom gun disguised as a pirate cannon, another, but 400g's is a lot o Aud's or A$'s.

Ha. No, netting would not survive the sometimes cyclonic weather, and people would not like to be enclosed by steel netting - and It's a long distance to cover. The restaurants still make a handsome profit - prices are high because people pay for the view as well as the food.

Well, they should take the gulls to court. 😜

The only real solution here would be to make sure the seagulls were happy too. LOL I do understand how persistent seagulls are. I've had a few encounters with them on various beaches. They are fun to watch. I enjoyed reading this post.

Oh my goodness, I live on the coast here and we have seagulls by the millions. They are not shy creatures at all. Beautiful in flight but like we call them here, no more than rats with wings. Garbage disposals. That is a genius idea in Sydney. What a fun read. Thanks for sharing that. Gretchen

I knew as soon as you mentioned thieves where this was going as I too live on the coast and know just how bold and greedy these creatures can become. The other day a particularly daring one snatched a doughnut out of my 4 year old grandson's hand, leaving him absolutely bereft, returned to snatch one out of my 1 year old daughter's hand, leaving her open-mouthed and then came back (or it could have been another one) to attempt to snatch the whole bag that my daughter-in-law was carrying! Love the sound of the Seagull Patrol though. Great read! Take care Debbie

Your poor grandchildren! Hope they are over their fright. Yes, they are very cheeky - will steal a sandwich half-way to a person's mouth!
Thanks for a super review.

I knew the thief had to be a bird immediately, as we have the same problem here in Florida at outdoor restaurants. They seem to especially like French fries.
Our "solution" has been to throw a few fries on the ground away from tables to distract the thieves; perhaps yours will work a little better:-)
Wish I could visit this spot for a day:-)

Thank you Pam. I think some diners do that but it seems to encourage them to come closer to make others share as well!

That is a very interesting story, Wendy. We have plenty of seagulls here on the coast of Maine. When I go to McDonalds and eat in the car, I will throw French fries out the window for the gulls.

So now they believe they are "entitled" and won't hesitate to insist that other diners share also! Lol. You made me smile here.

Many times they will land on the hood of the car and stare at me through the windshield.

Making you feel guilty until you share! Lol.

Super!
Well written, of course. And appropriately compensated. (personal smiley face here)
I wondered whether a small, net, plate umbrella would work. Didn't think of dogs. But they would have to be large dogs, no? I don't see how a Manchester Terrior could pull it off.
I once had a sandwich that I held right in front of my face take by a gull while I was momentarily distracted (prob'ly by a lady not wearing enough clothes, no doubt) (smiley face here) Guess that'll teach me!
Best wishes.

Lol. Thanks for the fun review. Yes, watch your food, not the ladies! They have umbrellas at some of the cafés. It doesn't seem to help. Yes, they are all large dogs, I think mostly German Shepherds.
Thanks for reviewing. Wendy
