What a sweet story. It is very easy to picture your narrator and you describe the others very well as well. I think you should change the Shirley Temple reference because it doesn't work as well as your actual descriptive writing. Otherwise, I like it very much.

What a wonderful, well timed love story! I loved every nuance and subtle illustration of God working in Tom and Mary's life to bring them together... forever.
Companionship is so very necessary in this fallen world, yet without God's Grace, finding that companion is virtually impossible.
