I am not certain who Sunny is, but you did write a great tribute to her, whoever she may be. I lost my husband in 2019, and after years of not writing I picked up my pencil and the feelings just flowed out of me and haven't stopped. I am sorry for your loss of your Sunny.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You expressed the emotion very well. Good rhymes that don't sound forced. Pleasant background pastel color.

This is a heartbreaking, but inspirational description of life. These lines had the most meaning for me. "Pleasant memories Mixed with misery...
Combine sweet dreams With heart-breaking grief." I'm sorry for the loss of your faithful companion, but I'm glad the sun is still shining on you.

Very deep poem with an encapsulating ending. "Change is clearly an eternal song" is a nice, sums it up perfectly. Good luck and thanks for thinking it out.

Sorry for your loss of your beloved pet. It will take a while. Eventually, you'll just remember all the great things about Sunny.
Well written poem to express you grief.
Thanks for sharing.

The does rise, that ornery thing. LOL It's God's promise to us that things will be all right, although at the time it doesn't seem so. You remain in my prayers. Thank you for sharing and letting us know you're all right.

Thank you Jesse, for this poignant tribute to your partner.
Quatrains with two beats to each line, rhyming abcb - a simple and reflective form, ideal for this particular subject.
Whether the cypress tree is real or not, the cypress is an emblematic for sorrow and sadness; there are some 'nightbirds' which have the same significance.
So this is a bitter-sweet poem - and not only that, but it is transitional in your 'recovery' of equilibrium - but it is also the eye of the storm - so you are still vulnerable emotionally. Therefore, I should say, still give yourself as much time as you need. You can see the silver linings in the clouds, and the light at the end of the tunnel, but don't assume that grief is a straight line.
That said, your last, excellent, line is something to believe - change is an eternal song - which means you have all the time in the world.
Paul

It is hard to get over the loss of a beloved Pet, Jesse. The best advice I can give you would be to find another one to share your time and love with. So many animals need homes. They certainly outnumber the people needing pets. Love is more valuable when it is shared. Nancy:)

This poem, Sun Still Rises, makes the sound of a person who has been through it and sees the cycle of life now as that thing we are all in until we are not. Loss is saddening, but, as said, "pleasant memories mix with misery".

-Your notes and poem and appreciated, Jesse.
-It takes time to get over a huge loss in our lives
so I am glad you are writing about it.
-Effective imagery and rhyme.
-A very good opening verse showing
the two sides of emotions.
-You continue that idea in verse two
except now there is turning "a brand new leaf."
-A very good concluding verse that gives a feeling of hope.
-Well done. Take care and have a good week and 4th of July.
