You and I and servicepersons (woke word) of our time will never forget those we stood by, and cried when they died.Today, service personnel are kin to the police, and come Memorial Day will only be thanked over hotdogs and brewskis for the day with pay off.

Thank you for sharing this remembrance contest entry with us. I'm just wondering as I read, how many Americans in today's society even know what Memorial Day represents. I doubt very many. Good luck with the contest.

I couldn't agree more with your well written poem. My dad was a WW2 vet, one of the lucky ones that came back. Solider then were commended, not spit upon. We wouldn't be free without all that they sacrificed. Thanks for sharing.

God Bless you and all who have participated in this contest while honoring and remembering our fallen. In a world where "traditions" seem to be eroding and Memorial Day often means "Hot Dogs and Beer" this reflective poem hit home. Your meter is fine...it has the same beat as every grateful heart.

as the husband of an army vet, who has served abroad with many military people, and taught for three years military soldiers, I can relate to this heart felt tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

They ARE the reason we are free. As we go about our daily lives, we must remember there were those who paid a great price for our freedom to come and go as we please. I thank YOU for being one who sacrificed your time, putting your life in jeopardy in the military. Thank you also for this powerful message. Best wishes in the contest.

Excellent entry for the Memorial Day In Poetry contest. It's a fine tribute to our military, specially our veterans. The rhyme and meter is perfect. Goodluck!

Really well done poem. A great tribute to the fallen soldiers. I saw the remake of the movie 'Midway' and realized what a huge sacrifice those pilots made, they knew they would not come back but went anyway. Such amazing courage. We don't appreciate them enough. Great poem, hope you do well in the contest.

This is a truly heartfelt piece of poetry. Way too many of our soldiers are lost. Without them, though, we would all be living very different lives. I was blessed to have a father and father-in-law that both served in Korea and made it home. My brother-in-law was also Army, and my brother was career Navy. Two of my kids were Jr. ROTC in high school. Everyone is safe at home, thankfully, but my prayers go out to those not home and those that will never be. Your poem is a somber reminder about the debt we all owe to these wonderful people.
