I love this. Good ol' Uncle Marion! You have written this well, i.e. flawlessly, and in a way that is completely without offense. It is so good to see these gentle, often creative souls being accepted now.

A fun, inventive post Gretchen and many gay men are married for various reasons. I once worked with a guy who was married with a family and his wife knew he was gay when she married him and they had an open relationship and it all seemed to work for them. I know this is fiction but stranger things happen in reality. I enjoyed the humour here, love Dolly x

This was often the situation in times past, when men had to mask being gay by trying their best to be "normal". I had a gay friend who only "came out" after he was married for several years and had fathered two children. Things are very different these days. You make a good point out people making assumptions but not daring to simply ask. I would just comment that one doesn't need to ask anyway - it's nobody's concern really except their own. Very well written story.
Wendy
Edit?: "widow" amale is usually called a "widower"

Thanks, Wendy. I'm not sure what the world's fascination with everyone's sensuality is all about. Anyhow, thank you. Gretchen

This is about the situation and the reaction and you did a great job telling the story. I know it can be a sticky situation. We had a person in the family who was Gay and I know it was never mentioned. The poor guy just disappeared after the mother passed away. He finally broke free to live the life he wanted to live. We had no idea where he went.
Well done, Gretchen. Nancy:)

Thanks, Nancy. It's really sad that so many had to hide their sensuality, but now it's gone a little out of control in the opposite direction. Appreciate this awesome review. Gretchen

I can't imagine anyone finding that offensive. A boy I went to high school with was saddled with the name Marion. Back then there was no in-your-face homosexuality. Boys protected their masculinity fiercely, and well, you just didn't hear of lesbianism. Everything was definitely closeted. The most flagrantly gay guy in our school was the leader of the marching band. I don't know what you called them, but strutting with a long staff of some sort. Well, I saw him again at our 50th reunion. He was the official greeter when people entered. He hadn't changed one iota in his flamboyance but he never once let it be known he was gay. I'm sure if anyone would have put a tiarra on his 67 year-old head he would have flung it to the floor and stormed off. Images needed protecting when they grew out of the fifties.

The guy might still be in denial. I had an uncle like that. And maybe he wasn't gay, but he had a plethora of estrogen and a shortage of testosterone. Either way, he said he was straight. And quite honestly, it's no one's business. Gretchen
