Out of 6 stars, dear poet, so
a 6th star from heaven to you.
I think I know how you feel
from reading this very well
constructed write. I'm 65,
from Long Island, NY. Back
in the 1970's I was an athlete.
I can still recall autumn days
of cross-country races on
the running trails at Bethpage
Park. Just effortlessly running
these races. Now, I have
severe arthritis in both knees,
and when I rise from sitting,
I have two canes I use. I don't
want knee replacement
surgery (have a fear of post-op hospital acquired infection) so, when I see the
orthopedic doctor in July,
I'm going to ask about
non-surgery treatments.
Anyway, I can commiserate
with other aging poets on
body issues such as aching
backs, crunchy joints, and
mild forgetfulness. You've
penned of your aging experiences so movingly.
Bravo to you, soldier on.
Many blessings to you. ~

Thank you very much! Such a lovely review, and I am happy you even thought about that extra star. I hope you can find a good solution for your knees - arthritis can be so very painful.

Comment from Jim Wile
I loved this, Wendy. So well written and so familiar to those of us in the same boat--perhaps nothing life-threatening at the moment, but nevertheless still victims of the relentless, intransigent process of growing old.
I especially loved the line, "I'm old enough to do what I want, and I don't really care what people think. That's a definite sign of being old!" Humorous, but oh so true. It's a relief, in a way, to no longer have to worry so much about the propriety of our actions and how they may appear to others that we would frequently experience in our youth. Old age has a few things going for it anyway.
If only we could have the wisdom and experience of age and the bodies of youth. Then life would truly be grand! Jim

Ah yes, the wisdom of age and the bodies of youth -that would be a good combination. Yes, there are still a few positives about getting older. Thanks for a super review.

This is so fun! I can relate to everything! Getting ready is an Olympic event. I was writing a book chapter today and had a brain freeze. I dunno where my mind is lately but it fuzzy. I even take medication that fires my brain. Oh dear! Thanks for cheering me up. I'm going to bed in a better mood. Sending you my very best.

I remember when I turned 55. I was mildly upset but figured the alternative was worse. A woman in her seventies took me aside and gave me a welcome to the senior side of life speech. She told me about discounts, special privileges and freebies. She said that I could speak my mind and not have to bother explaining myself or my opinion. Getting old ain't for sissies but it isn't all bad. Gretchen

Oh yes, those signs. Like young girls offering you a seat, and lipstick on your teeth. Stopping to look at the mobility scooter display. Relying on the cat to exercise the dog. Good story, well done.
Still shuffling along, Julie x

I felt old when I got my pill planner, too! LOL. My niece spent the night with me and my parents last night, and she spent most of the night listing reasons my mother was a senior citizen.
I really enjoyed reading your story about signs of growing older. It happens to all of us.
Thank you for sharing this very amusing story. Best wishes to you.

I think I'm in a similar, (but I don't have a daily pill container as yet) but to my horror the doctor said my vitamin D and B12 were down a bit, (old person sign) but then, like you, I'm in reasonable health, no joint stiffness, beautifully written, and delightfully funny, I refuse to Share my health issues though, beautifully written Blessings Roy

Thanks Roy for reviewing. Some things are best not shared I know. (I didn?t share all mine either, lol. Just enough to take the Mickey out of myself). A great review.

You have posted my exact story. I can relate to everything you said. It broke my heart to have to wear old lady shoes forever more. This is well written in a humorous way, and easy to identify with. I was glad to read you are mostly in good health. God is good.

Yes He is good. I do hate wearing these ugly shoes, but they are comfortable and effective so ? ah well. Not the worst thing in the world. I am so glad the story resonated. Thank you so much for reviewing.

This is quite entertaining. I think the first I felt I was getting older was when I took my nieces and nephews hiking. I had always been the one to wait for the slow ones and help them get up the mountain. Then one day, I had a nephew waiting for me. What? I didn't feel I needed him to do it since I was in my thirties at that time and he had just reached his teens. I was still taking care to make sure the younger ones made it, but he was making sure I made it. Oh, I didn't like the tables turning.

I understand. When I took year sevens on camp and there was a lot of uphill walking they were asking me to slow down as they couldn?t keep up - and I was in my sixties! Not nice to see them now and think Nah, what?s the rush ?.! Lol. Thanks so much for a great review.

I love this. The first time I felt old was when the young, good looking doctor I'd been seeing for years, was suddenly grey and balding with grown children! Another time I felt old, was when the mother of young boy I'd known as a Kindergartener showed me a photo of his wife and children!
Where does the time go?
