Oh, how we are addicted to our phones. Your picture plus
words painted that idea perfectly, Jessica. In the case you
described, it was sad Gabby had issues and sought her
phone as her BFF. Your story covered much in the few words
allowed.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Thanks, Jan!! I really appreciate your insight. It's frightening how this is actually quite common today, it drives me a little crazy to be honest!

In just a few words you told a striking story and delivered a powerful message. Recently, I was in a crowded doctor's office. The TV was on, but everyone had their head down looking at a cell phone, children included.
Your story is nicely developed, leading to what sounds like a satisfying end...then the surprising twist. Clever storytelling. Best wishes in the contest.

Well written, Well done.
Yes, it is unfortunate that kids (and adults) spend so much time and energy on electronics when playing and interacting with friends would be so much better for them.
Best wishes.

Your story is so true. It seems that children and adults are on their phones all the time. Technology has taken over. Excellent tale here that is relevant to today's world.

It's a sad fact of life now, isn't it?--as you have pointed out so well in your flash story. Her phone has become her new BFF, and the irony is that it was probably the availability of social media on her phone that caused the original issues with her classmates in the first place with all the harassment and bullying that goes on with social media.
Very well done. Jim

How very topical this is! I have mixed feelings about the whole issue. Girls of that age can be so cruel to each other. If Gabby can avoid them online too, she should be alright. As an only child with an enquiring mind, I would have loved an iphone.

This is well handled. Leaving it open for the reader invites them to project their experience or knowledge into the scenerio: "She has stopped socializing, and spends all her time with her new best friend. " A delusion for Gabby and the reader: "After playing for hours, her sadness faded." The ending is a great twist.

Okay. You got me. I'm reading this short 75 word flash and my mind was thinking Gabby was a teddy bear or another stuffed animal!
Good twist at the end.
Cheers.

The phone is becoming the best friend of too many young people nowadays. It is sad to see the disconnection that it brings, and this piece reminds the reader of that.
