What is the old joke about the person saying to the concert violinist, "I'd give my life to play like that." And he responds, "I did."
You do a great job building the suspense. I was imaging maybe a pet or even a person right until the big reveal. Thankfully, the guitar found a good home. Maybe, this musician will put more into the relationship.

Someone treats a person as depicted in the first paragraph it is time to bid them adios.

Being treated like that would be his loss with no looking back in regret as the departing one waltzed out the door.

Like the twisted ending. Reading through the story thought the narrator may be a dog.

Can relate to how quickly some people put an instrument they are too impatient to learn how to play down.

Glad you liked it - and thank you so much for the review. You're right - if it was a person she would definitely need to say bye-bye.

LOL, well, I knew you going somewhere with it, but dang, if I could figure out where. This is a well-done fiction story. I also think you are right about the setting aside of the musical instruments. That is why I see so many in pawn shops. Good job. Terry.

I'm becoming a bit predictable - but so long as you have to keep reading to find out the particular destination of the trip, I am happy. No looking at the notes first, either!! Thanks so much for a great review.

The speaker is a guitar that yearns to be appreciated again. At first his owner embraced him and show him off to his friend. Now he has lost interest. The guitar is happy that he has a friend who's a musician and will give him the loving touch he needs. A clever write.

I liked how you built up the story to be misleading, then had the reveal that the narrator was a musical instrument. You told the story well.
I bought myself a guitar for my high school graduation, but I never learned to play it. That was twenty-three years ago!
Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

This was so good. Alas, not a six to be found in my cupboard. I liked that this was about an inanimate object and that it wasn't a person or a pet. But it was written in a way that spoke to my heart. Heck, it could have been a house plant. Really thought provoking. Gretchen

Thank you Gretchen. Even the thought of it meriting a six is special.

This was very well written, and I enjoyed it, but knowing you, I was guessing it was a dog! ; ) But a guitar works even better! I think it would be quite sad to be a person rejected!

Thank you Verna. Lovely review. Yes, I might be becoming a bit too predictable. I 'll have to develop my imagination a bit more. Lol. My dreams are weird and imaginative, so perhaps ....!

Lol. You certainly made that guitar sound like a woman who is unhappy with the way she has been neglected! I think you could have even talked about her shapeliness since she's a guitar! Fun post! And yes, very few children stick with an instrument unless they have a mom that pushes practice!

Yes, I meant to when I was planning it, and then forgot - so I have added a few words. Thank you for the reminder. Lovely review. Many thanks.

You got me! I had no idea it wasn't a person being rejected until the very end. I always wanted to learn guitar as well as the piano. I loved the piano. I had to be forced not to play!

I still play. I have a church model organ and the piano I started out on as a five year old. I've made money playing for wedding, funerals, and I was church organist for many years. I still would like to learn guitar and the banjo. I took a few violin lessons, but didn't come close to mastering it.

You would probably still be able to learn to play a guitar. Being musical would make it probably an easy instrument for you!
I was the "bad guy" in my story, neglecting my guitar, and finally selling it.
reply by damommy on 20-Apr-2023
It's okay if you didn't want it. It's not too late to learn the piano, either. Go for it.

I enjoyed the twist at the end. I thought at the beginning it was a pet, probably a dog. Never entered my head about a musical instrument, but it does make total sense. Thank you for sharing this with us.
