Thank you for sharing your gardening experience and experiences with all the animals that seem set on taking advantage of it. It looks so easy on those T.V. gardening shows. I don't think I've ever heard one of them mention the animals involved. It sounds like you are game to go again.
This is well written. I can picture Cindy out there flinging those bottles and those sneaky blackbirds just waiting for the moment she leaves.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. The blackbirds are back, and the war has resumed. Cindy loaded her water bottles to throw at the birds. It makes life interestig. Lol

My goodness, PBB! You certainly had a bad run of it for a while. I never heard of so many consecutive problems with wildlife eating a garden, and I'm sure you haven't either. I'm Happy you hung in there and solved the issues. Well, Except for the strawberries! Great read! Best, JohnC

Thank you. Yep, I'm going to have to find a better way to raise some strawberries around here. I need to think about it for a while. Lol

Thank you. We just live in a bad area. The woods are close to the house, and when the corn is tall, it is easy for critters to sneak up to our house. Everything is under control except the blackbirds.

This would be funny if it was not true. I enjoyed reading it and feel sorry for you ladies. So many animal invaders, sounds like you whooped them all. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Thank you. Well, we whooped everything except the balckbirds. They will be a never ending battle.

I always enjoy your stories and envy your living space, critters and all. Well written and entertaining.

One little bit:

"Well, I'll fix them," followed by
her going to get ready for work diffuses the idea of her wanting to get even or fix anything.

Good luck in the contest!

Pam

Your entry for the Wildlife Short Story contest is very interesting and easy to read. You certainly had your share of problems with the wildlife. I am glad you found solutions to most of them, and hope that this year will be better.

This story, The Blackbird War, is a fun read. All homeowners can relate to your war stories with varmints, deer and bears, and those dang birds. You kept the story light and humorous as we saw you make improvement on improvement to battle the ambitious neighbors. Owe you a six.

Our Blackbirds have already returned. It's not the Grackles that bother, but the Brown-headed Cowbirds will empty the feeders and chase off the Nuthatches and Cardinals. What a wonderfully written story about backyard life.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a grat day, and God bless.

Thank you. The blackbirds are back here too. My niece and the birds have resumed the war where they left off last fall.

Very nicely written. Error free as far as I can tell. This was a fine, entertaining story. It should fare well in the contest.
We also have our favorites when it comes to feeding wildlife. It seems odd, though, since all of them have to eat.

Thank you. It has been interesting living here. The wildlife didn't bother us at the other place we lived in. That's because there was a deer fence around the whole four hundred acres. Lol
