Hi Lea,
It seems the abused woman in this picture used to illustrate the words has a weapon in her hands now.
This poem shows how love can keep you in a bad situation until you realize that it is time to leave. This realization is heaven sent.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

This meets all the requirements of cinquain poetry. In addition I liked the use of colour (red) here. it goes so well with the anger to which it refers. An excellent entry.

After reading your notes it became clear that I was thinkin similar as I read it. Very unique and clever! If you're not familiar with it, Pearl Jam has a song called Better Man which is the sentiment in your poem as song.

powerful moving tribute to abused woman who still believe that their lover really loves them and that the violence they encounter is somehow their fault part of the continued gaslighting inflicted by their abuser.

Your poem is such a poignant write as it is sadly true in some relationships, that once a man shows his true colors, then the one she first met has gone forever. He doesn't exist, she has been fooled, and the sooner she sees it, the better. Your poem was rich in both imagery and theme. Thank you for sharing.

I've heard many times that the abused woman always thinks that the abuser can be changed and that everything will get better. I've never seen it happen though.
