This is an exceptional bit of flash fiction. The unexpected twist is brilliant. I think you should do very well in the contest. I like the art work too. Good luck.

I enjoyed reading this flash fiction entry. I like how it lead the reader down a path that perhaps the woman is devastated after twenty one years of marriage coming to an end. But oh no - she is happy. Yes girl, go celebrate!

Hah!
Good one, Jen!
Loved the ending.
Of course, you led the reader on to believe that your protagonist was devastated by Michael leaving her!
Kudos!
Best wishes!

Sometimes things just don't work out and you drift apart for one reason or another but you pick up the pieces and carry on like nothing happened.Life isn't perfect.

Ohhhhhh! You wicked, wicked flash fiction writer, you!!! I was all set to feel so sorry for her! You got me good, and for that reason, I hope you boogie on down to the winner's circle in the Flash Fiction contest. This one got me hook, line and sinker. (I was expecting something like, "She'd give her talk on 'How to Have a Successful, Long-Term Marriage' same as she did the previous fifteen years.") I like your version WAAAAY better!!! xo

Sometimes a tragedy can rock our world to the place that we're now hunger in lust for reality.
...
This was well written rich in Theme and Imagery.
It also, read well and Flowed well with No Grammar Issues.
...
I'm sure she had her audience well in hand and they appreciated what she was going to say.
Good luckJenn with your contest entry and have a blessed day!

I like your lecturer and her courage to carry on even when her heart wasn't in it. And then the last line! One sentence tells us everything we need to know about her and her triumph over loss and disappointment. I suspect that he didn't deserve her. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

I used to lecture college students at night and often WEATHER made me not want to go. Great surprise ending. But I find your style distracting. Can you shorten your sentences, especially the one beginning with "However"?
