-Lovely images and presentation, Gypsy.
-Thanks for the notes.
-You wrote a good tanka with a good topic.
-You establish the premise and mood well
in the opening lines.
-A very good pivot line.
-Very good concluding lines with effective
nature imagery that relates well to the
opening lines and the situation.

This is a poignant piece on the sad reality of love and longing - some hopes and dreams become as hopeless and extinct as the spix macaw. A lovely entry for the contest.

A thousand nights would date back to the 2019 extinction date of the spix macaw. Your tanka is in great form and gives us extra information. The love has become extinct and the bleeding heart flowers symbolize the pain.
By the way, good news! They have found more spix macaws:

This is just a beautiful penned Tanka.
While I understand the dark writing is used to help the mood, I think the lettering is too dark. What if it was red to highlight the bleeding heart flower.

Your publishing here is just lovely. Such bright colours and the tanka is filled with yearning and sorrow, but not so much as to be overwhelming, just to be enjoyed in beautiful surroundings.
Wishing you great luck with the Contest Committee. :))

The bleeding-heart flower is a favorite of many people. Did you know that the bleeding heart is a person who is very emotional about certain issues.
In politics, the term "bleeding heart liberal" is frequently used to describe someone with left-leaning policies and is very emotional about the poor, the downtrodden, the environment, etc. People who feel very intensely about a subject may often cry about it.

Rosemary,
In this case, bleeding heart is a flower and a sentiment, it's not political but it is about a sensitive person so I see your point.
Thank you for the exceptional five stars review and kind words. Have a wonderful day.
