I really appreciated the read! For me the Beatles' music was always a part of my childhood. "Yellow Submarine" and "Here comes the Sun" were favourites to sing in school assemblies. While I grew up a generation after the mania, it's quite remarkable the impact their music had not just on the music industry but as you describe on society as a whole. I recall hearing that in 2014 when Kanye west and Paul McCartney came together to produce some singles, youngsters were commending Kanye and generously giving this unknown musician a "leg up!" Or perhaps media were just having fun! Anyway... your writing is wonderful. Easy to read and relate to!!

Yep. I walked this trail but was not a baby boomer. It was still fresh as you said when I returned home from the Cold War threats with Russia. I like your post. It is right on.

You're the same age as I am. I graduated in 1964, too. I remember the assassination of Kennedy very well. It was announced by the school speakers. My parents disliked Elvis and the Beatles. Times have sure changed since then. Nice story.

1963 surely was a year to remember. That was the year I graduated from Bible College and faced an uncertain future. But doors opened. I remember exactly where I was when we heard about President Kennedy.

I still remember my black Patton leather shoes with the big brass buckle. I've been lucky to see a few of the artists you've mentioned, The Killer, and one day my wife got a kiss from Little Richard, but that's another story. What a wonderfully written piece. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day, and God bless.

Mike, thank you for the six stars! I suspect a lot of us would like to hear about you seeing Te Killer, and the story behind your wife's kiss! Thanks for reading. Terry.

This brings back wonderful memories. I don't think most of us thought of it as a time of the next big thing. I think we hoped it would just go on and on--trips to the moon, singers as great at the Beatles (and many were), the end of formal clothes (yeah jeans), and peace and love. I suspect the contempt many had for the Viet Nam veterans was because their suffering and death forced us to accept that they were the example of the failure of peace and love. We here at Fanstory are so lucky to have such an inspiring writer as you.

Great write, Terry!

I can't imagine witnessing all of this "live."

These musicians were before my time, but I certainly know of them and enjoyed their music my entire life.

I am personally fond of Jimi Hendrix the person, and of course his soulful vibes.

I mean who plays the guitar upside down??

Reading this triggered so many fond memories. Political and personal.

Music is everlasting and the universal language.

I am out of six stars to reward. In my view, this warrants one.

In a few short paragraphs you did a nice summation of the "next big thing".

I was born in '54 so a few things mentioned were before my time. But from the Cuban missile crisis I'm in. We've seen quite a lot...

Nicely done,

Cheers, John

I've read this, and I've read Karenina's stunning review (in the form of a post) for it. Both are worthy of highest acclaim. A six, certainly ... but well, what can I say. As I said to Karenina, I've lived on the other side of both your memories of those times. Some, though, have been rekindled, thanks to the two of you.

Warmest regards and I hope you have a wondrous Christmas season!

Jay

I saw the development of the same thing. I have to say I didn't get involved with beatle mania, but I sure loved Elvis movies. first Elvis movie I got to see at a theater as Blue Hawaii. My uncle took me and spent the entire time complaining about swivel hips. You did a great job. Have a wonderful afternoon. Shirley

Shirley, I am pretty sure it was your uncle complaining about 'swivel hips' and not you, LOL, Thank you for reading, Terry.
