You had a lot of compassion and empathy for those children as a child yourself. That speaks well of the way you were raised ~ and is further demonstrated by the support and belief your dad had in you when confronted by a rumor from someone who apparently had a harder heart than she ought to! She was likely projecting her own "Judgement" on those children. How sad. In the spirit of your piece, I will try to remember I do not know what motivated her... There might have been something really troubling her that manifested her behavior. I hope she learned how healing empathy can be! I now you were taught that from a young age!
