You and your family seemed to have a lodestar in your genetic makeup. you drew in famous people to your circle and in some way touched their lives. While most of us writers would have to be content saying, "I saw so-and-so in the airport," we would find out you sat next to them on the plane! Good job, Terry.

Jay, thank you for reading. I will have to tell you sometime about the night I slept with Kitty Wells, the first woman star of country music. Terry.
-
Yes! Yes! You will have to tell me about that incident. Yes, I knew Kitty well. But not AS well! I worshiped her from afar. You got a little closer. Talk on!
-
I will work on it. Of course, I will start by saying you twisted my arm. I don't really want to 'soil' her reputation, but Her Husband, Johnny Wright was there, Johnny and I had a couple of drinks before anything happened. Terry.
-
You're not saying it was a Ménage à trois?
-
The story is written. I am thinking about when to release it, I will send you a note. Terry.

That six is for the last sentence, besides the well written story. I enjoyed reading about your early dreams of baseball and presidents. You did a great job as always. Have a wonderful evening. Shirley

Great piece, I enjoyed the sentiment. The story at the beginning grabbed me and your sentiment kept me reading. I would have welcomed another personal antidote towards the end but it kept me moving with out one too. Very enjoy read.

I enjoyed your political commentary, as it is humorous with a powerful message. I chuckled when you said in 1960 you were a Democrat. You weren't old enough to be anything.
When I was around 10 years old, a man came to our house and stayed a long time talking to my mom and dad. When he left Dad said, "Don't ever let him back in. He's a Democrat." My sisters and I didn't know what that meant, but we were afraid of Democrats.
Great story, especially the George H and George W account.

I think the word "freedom" means, "freedom for me but not for you" especially if you're a communist, freedom is a fallacy, it stirs up the pride of the people, it was probably used by the Romans, the Mongols and Adolph Hitler. To me it means I'm free to love others, but not to crush them, that the only freedom God gave us, Beautifully written, blessings Roy

George H and George W is it? Living in a pretty high-class company, aren't you?
Solid message. No truer words could be spoken. Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent, it doesn't matter, what matters is our country and its success. No more lawyers, no more tricks, no more judges and courts, and impeachment threw around like it was a holiday or something. None of it makes sense. It has all gone downhill in the last 20 years.
I could say how we could get it all back to normal, but I will preserve the sanctity of the aura of this article and not mention what should be done.
Very good Terry, I couldn't agree more than six-stars worth anyway.

Sometimes, certain words or opinions just strike the right chord. This was one of them.

Very well written and an enjoyable read. I've never paid much attention to politics but I have to admit it's crazy how times have changed. Thank you for sharing.

-Thanks for sharing the image and story, Terry.
-I enjoy reading these because a lot of the history I can relate to.
-You begin well with your first ambition in life, and how that
dramatically changed for you.
-I like your comments after you described JFK.
-What a series of coincidences you then experienced. Did you know Laura well in school? It feels strange calling her that!
-I have a similar story about voting. I lived in Delaware, and the first Presidential election for me was in 1972. You might laugh at this, but I was a freshman in college, and I proudly cast my vote for George McGovern and somewhere is the clip on button I got.
-Later on I got to know Tom Carper when he was in graduate school at the University of Delaware.
-I totally agree with your ending paragraphs. Politics, voting, elections, and common decency have taken a turn for the worse in some places and in some people. Hopefully, some semblance of honor, truth, and justice can be restored sooner than later.

Pam thank you for the six stars and for your review! I did not know Laura well, although we were in the same grade for six years. She was a very popular girl, I knew her high school boyfriend well. I voted for McGovern in 72. Terry.
-
You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and review, Terry. Thanks for sharing about Laura. Did the boyfriend become famous, too. I don't know where W. went to school in the lower grades. Here's to McGovern!!!
-
Pam, her boyfriend was a fellow named Mike Douglas. He was killed in a car wreck, Laura was driving with a friend and went through a stop sign, and hit Mike?s Corvair. I think his car rolled, he died at the scene. His father was behind him, pulled Mike from car, and he died in father?s arms,
-
Thanks for sharing, Terry. That is very sad. That must have really impacted her life in a big way. No wonder she wanted W. to get more settled in his life before she agreed to marry him.
One small correction on my part. By the 1972 election, I had graduated from college and managed to get a teaching job at the high school I graduated from. After 3 years there, I moved to NJ, and taught here for 26 more years.

Terry,
Interesting stories about your life choices and the Bush Family, including Laura. You sure do get around. I really liked the last line. People are really frightened to let others be free, and by that I don't mean schools should be teaching sex to pre-schoolers.

Comment from Judy Lawless
This is an excellently written commentary on the way of the world these days, particularly in the US, but gradually spreading north. I like how you started out describing what you wanted to be as a kid (what boy didn't want to be a fireman?) and transition into the brushes you had with people who were soon to be living in the White House. I was also pleased to see that you stopped voting for "your" party and gave others a chance.
One little thing here:
"He had everything: a beautiful wife, money, prestige, and ideas about going to the moon if I could be like him--Wow!" I think a new sentence should start after 'moon'.
