I wish you the best with your procedure. I will be sending good thoughts. Surgery is a scary process, to think about, to prepare for. We think of the worst scenarios but thankfully few materialize. I am the same way, though I spent many years on the other side of the bed rail (nurse), it feels very strange to be the one being cared for.
I hope Sunny will be there to welcome you home!

Thanks, Sol, for your thoughtful review. I see from your review that previously, you were a nurse. Yes, it must feel strange to be now on the other side being cared for.
Thanks for your support and guidance.
Let's both hope that Sunny is there to greet me when I return home.
Have a wonderful day!

Hello Jesse,
This is an excellent post about the anxiety one feels before major surgery, and it isn't boring at all. In fact, I think many on the site can relate to your feelings.
I had major surgery twelve years ago, five hours under anesthesia. Everything went well; the waiting was probably more difficult for my family.
If your getting it done in San Francisco, I suspect you have an excellent surgeon. Trust him.
Just think, when this is done, you'll be walking again. Positivity helps healing,
along with following the advice of the experts who do this all the time.
Both my neighbors had knee replacement. Both are now walking every day!
Your friends on fanstory will all be pulling for you. I know I will.
Best wishes, my friend.

Hello Robert.
I feel proud to receive this exceptional review from you.
Thanks for sharing your personal story along with your neighbor's knee replacement.
My knee surgery is more complicated as they will be putting rods into my upper and lower leg.
Yet, the result should still be to walk again.
Dreams of walking on the beach will keep me going strong.
Best wishes as well to you, my friend.

This post is written with raw honesty!
I applaud you for that.
Not everyone can admit when their frightened and share that so openly.
I can appreciate what you are going through in the sense of lengthy surgeries, it is definitely an uncomfortable situation to be in.
I hope you have a speedy recovering and can get your toes in the sand very
soon:)
Thanks for sharing.

That's it! Raw honesty!
Yes, not everyone shares so openly, their feelings, and I admit it comes easy for me.
Uncomfortable is putting it mildly!
Speedy recovery is all I am after so I can walk again and put my toes in the sand of a nearby beach!
Thanks for a thoughtful review.
Have a great weekend,
Jesse

I can sympathize with your fears of what might happen during surgery or how your senior kitty will do without you. If you are traveling for surgery, it sounds like you are going to a specialist, so you'll be in great hands. And I'm sure you have someone trustworthy taking care of Sunny? Is this surgery for your knee the last one you need before you can try to walk again? My nephew was hit by a car and has had multiple surgeries on his shattered leg. He has been in and out of a wheelchair for a couple of years now. His last surgery was successful enough that he hasn't had to use a wheelchair again so far. May brighter days be ahead for you as well.
Take care,
Erika

Thanks, Erika, for the thoughtful review.
Yes, I am traveling for surgery and have a specialist for the job.
David is very trustworthy and will be taking care of Sunny.
I am sorry to hear about your nephew. I am sure that my case is different from his.
Thanks for wishing me brighter days ahead for me!
Thanks for sharing.
Take good care of yourself, and have a wonderful weekend!

I don't know your level of faith, my dear FS brother, but being positive before the surgery is essential. Relax and trust that you are in the hands of experts. Surgeons and hospitals take pride in doing all the right things. Having your life in their hands isn't taken likely. They are just as concerned as you are about performing the perfect surgery. Worrying can slow your recovery, I've been told. Your FS family will hold you in our prayers.

Just expressing my feelings, my friend. I can relax with the best of them! Remaining positive is the one thing I am good at. Worrying isn't in my nature.
Thanks for your prayers and good wishes.

That is an interesting piece on the fears and hopes regarding an upcoming surgery. It is certainly a frightening situation. I wish you a good outcome and speedy recovery. Evi

You definitely have the market cornered on staying upbeat and positive, and I firmly believe that gets you very far when faced with any challenge. While I fully understand your being nervous before an operation (just as I was nervous when my plane took off from New York and then Florida last week, even though I know the pilots are trained and the risk of anything going wrong is minimal), I have no doubt that everything is going to go well. Like the pilots, your doctors are thoroughly trained and have likely done operations similar to yours many times.
I don't know exactly what you're having done to your knees, but I can say that, within the past two years, my husband has had both his knees replaced. One is fully healed, while the one done more recently still requires a bit more straightening and strengthening, but he can certainly get around on both legs. There was a time when any walking was extremely difficult, and you'd never know it to see him walk now.
Because you fully believe you will walk again, I fully believe it too. Between your doctors' experience, and your amazing attitude, I'm sure that everything will go well. Trust me, you'll find that support you said you need right here. You will be fine!
Thank you for opening up and being so honest, and for trusting your FanStory friends with your fears, hopes and dreams.

Well, I am not sure I will heal as fast as your husband did or is but I thank you for your support and for sharing. As you know I am always honest and my willingness to open up is well known.
Yet I believe I will walk again in as long as it takes and that is for sure!
You are one of my closest friends and I was looking forward to your review.
Thanks for checking in, my friend.

My pleasure as always, Jesse. I'm honored that you consider me one of your closest friends.
I realize you're always open and honest in your work, but I'll never stop mentioning it because it never ceases to amaze me. It takes so much courage to open up as you do and, since I'll always respect that, I'll always point it out.

Thanks, Michele, you're a good friend.

Jesse, you will ace this, and I will be praying for you and for your senior cat, Sunny. Now that's all I am going to say about content because I have one suggestion -- editors want to see exclamation marks ONLY for things like, "Stop!" or "Help!" (I tend to overuse them too, even after being informed by an editor not to...)
Best of luck. You've got this!

All I know Dawn is that other writers on this site use all kinds of devices that are not allowed by editors, and it still works for them. So, I will continue to use them as I please if you don't mind.
Thanks for your prayers and good wishes!

Why would I mind? I just give the best review I can -- share the information I've been given by pro editors. Of course, if you are not submitting to a traditional publishing house then it wouldn't matter anyway. :)
You're welcome, Jesse. Again, best of luck with the surgery and recovery.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi Jesse, I can so identify with this. I had my first surgery back in August 2014 and I was terrified. I had never had an operation in my life and this was a major one. I still have the scar to prove it. From my breasts bone and all the way down to the unmentionable. Cancer was feared but it turned out to be a benign cyst. So I'm still here. But I can so sympathise with you. All sorts of crazy stuff goes through your head. Good luck, my friend. Ulla:)))

You will be in my prayers! I hope you will someday walk shoeless on the beach and go on exciting treks. Your personal essay is very descriptive, honest, and expressive. Yes! Stay positive.
