So often we don't understand. We just need to have the faith that God does understand. Thank you for sharing this poem with us. I will pray for this young man's family and friends. God know who they are. Thank you for sharing.

This hits home for so many of us, and I thank you for doing such a graceful job of putting grief and confusion to the page. I am sorry for your loss, but glad you have an outlet for your sadness. You've done a beautiful job, here.

Hi Janet,
Was this young man one of the seven killed in that July 4th (Independence Day) parade in Highland Park, Illinois? The assassin was dressed as a woman to avoid being identified. I saw that on TV.
How many times will the government stand by and do nothing about gun control? Is the NRA that strong? Something has to be done... quickly!
Schools, churches, grocery stores and now community parades... these have all become killing grounds. It's time to make the United States ... SAFE! You can't make sense out of nonsense!
"We question who can be to blame?
If only -- is our battle cry
but sadly - we all bear the shame." ... You are absolutely right. It's time the whole nation stood up and demanded better gun control. That means NO AUTOMATIC WEAPONS. And that's just a start. Every gun needs to be registered. And every gun bearer needs to take a gun safety test, and also have a legitimate permit to carry said weapon. Every gun needs to be locked up, separate from ammunition (which also needs to be locked up.) And every gun needs a trigger lock as well. Finally, that clause about the "right to bear arms" (the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution) needs to be eliminated.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
The only people who need weapons (besides registered hunters) are the police and the military.
The world is getting to complex. There's too much greed and hatred in the world today. Even aliens are starting to dread being assigned Earth to monitor. We have a reputation in the galaxy, and it isn't good.
Nicely penned poem about needless loss, Janet. Death is permanent. You can't bring back innocents who have been shot by madmen.
Blessings,
Kimbob

Thank you Kimbob for your thoughtful and encouraging review.
This young man was not part of the Independence Day Parade in Illinois. As much as we can learn (as the family is not sharing the whole story) we think he took his own life. And as you say, death is permanent and his family is suffering from his senseless act.
Thank you again Kimbob.

-Beautiful image and nice presentation, Janet.
-I appreciate your notes and am sorry for your loss.
-You wrote a good poem for this young man.
-You have a good opening showing the way
things were when we were younger.
-You ask good questions because it is
hard to understand the loss of someone we care about.
-You have very good closing verses that
show where we can take comfort and solace from.
-Thoughts are with you and your friends.

Janet,
This is a nicely written poem in remembrance any loved one and friend, but can also be said of the victims of the school shooting in Texas, or in any mass shooting. It is sad that anyone dies young. It i also sad our gun laws aren't stricter and the NRA is so strong against needed change.
I am sorry for your and the family's loss.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

I posted a poem along these lines this morning. What a sad thing to understand, Janet. I can see how some of our youth feel ill equipped to face life now. Danger lurks around every corner. It's sad but true. Some people just cannot cope with
it. Well done. Nancy:)

I am so sorry for your loss. It is unthinkable when someone dies unexpectedly. And the world seems to be suffering from sadness to the extreme lately. Thank you for sharing your insights for all the grief-stricken mothers and fathers.
