I bet you had something to do with adding that marker for your Uncle Ed. You created a beautiful tribute to him, making sure that not only you remembered but all of us who read your bio of him, recognize him. You have given him a permanent family home in your heart.

I hope he didn't think that of himself in his life. Though I only
know of what you've shared here, it was sad. Your details filled
in all the necessary info. Yes, his life was very different from the
norm. I believe the family was devastated--of course they knew.
I'm happy he finally got a marker for his final resting place.

I am not at all surprised at your diligence in researching your family roots, nor at your fine and honorable gesture to work through what I've experienced to be a lot of "red tape" to get that veterans marker your Uncle Ed surely deserved! This is a moving story that so many families tend to cover up while doing research... (That almost happened in my own family when a prudish aunt wanted to stop genealogical research because a distant cousin has been arrested and made to pay "three beaver pelt" to the wronged party!)
I think it's so important to make a record of these things for those that come after us.

What I liked was the twist and turns of Thomas Edwards Broxson journey in life. Your story was engaging. He fought through the hard knocks
of life and in the end was remembered by his service duty.
Each point was very well written and clear. There wasn't any more needed to improve the family story. Thanks for sharing.

This poignant memoir is very reminiscent of my own history in some ways. I want to tell my story as a book, and I believe your history would probably be a more interesting read than my own. This is an interesting story about your relative. The story suggests that he did what he wanted to do with his life and, even if he never had a wife or partner, he enjoyed his life. His grandfather sounds as if he did not enjoy life as much since he was not someone who could forgive.

Barbara, thank you for reading and reviewing. I remember the phone call my dad received from his newly discovered half-brother. I think he was forty. He was smiling after the phone call. I think my mother asked him who called, and he said, my brother. I remember saying to him. I didn't know you had a brother. He replied, "Neither did I."
