This is a wonderful memory and Father's Day tribute to your dad, Terry. I think he knew how to live in the moment and make every minute count. His poem about the Twilight Years is perfect.

Terry, this story is wonderful. There are so many things about this story that I like, e.g. "Second, I am going to become an amateur radio operator (ham radio). Terry, I liked him being radio operator (ham radio) because my son's father-in-law is one, and although people laugh about him doing this, I say ... one day he is going to be a Hero when/if our enemies attack our national Grid or Internet. Father-in-law will be able to communicate. He will save lives, etc.
I also liked how your Dad ventured into the World of IBM. He gave his brother-in-law great input about the possibilities of what a computer can do, but I have a feeling that brother-in-law was too blind to see it at the time. You Dad was a man ahead of himself.
I loved your Dad's final poem, THE GOLDEN YEARS. Much of what he wrote, I can relate to. Sometimes, the Golden Years are anything but Golden, but they are all we got. Maybe we won't realize how Golden they are until our last dying breath.
A well written story with some fascinating and interesting facts. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

A most enjoyable read Terry, I wish I knew of writers in my ancestry somewhere, although I'm half Celt, so perhaps that has something to do with it, I admire your father, he didn't sit on his his hands, wondering what to do with, he remained young in mind, beautifully written tribute, blessings Roy

This is a well told story and beautiful tribute to your father. He is to be admired for the way he set goals that uplifted his family and unselfishly went out of his way to help others. He was surely a renaissance man, not to mention a prolific poet. Thanks for this inspiring share.

A well written story of the life of a renaissance man in the great state of Texas. I
could sense your pride in your father in each sentence . I am greatly impressed
that you have allowed us to read your father's final poem from 1986. I am
also in my golden years and am sharing important times with people I love,

Terry ,
A lovely picture, an amazing man, a courageous life spent in humble service to his family and fellow man. I think our world needs more of his kind with the get up and go to meet and overcome any of life's challenges.

I give you a great credit for remembering what your father did.
He worked hard to raise a family. He had a kind heart to help others.
He has a good desire to learn things to survive his jobs. In today's world, it is impossible find many people possessing such character and attitude.
Salute to your father.
Thanks for sharing.

After reading your father's poem, I see where you got your amusing turn of words. He sounds like a great guy, and this was a lovely tribute to him. It's wonderful that he could be a hero. Everybody should get a chance to do that at least once.

I am new to writing comments, so I read and write on how the story comes across to myself. This was a beautiful insight into a dad you dearly loved and miss.
The story told me age is no barrier for anyone wishing to learn and explore what was new.
With IBM, your dad saw a future no one else realized was possible.
A man with insights
