Very well written and expressed. I enjoyed reading this account on the feelings of a wheelchair bound user. I particular thought the last paragraph and this line - So, when you happen to see me in my wheelchair please notice me rather than what I am riding in. - a strong message to leave with the reader. It is so easy to focus on the wrong thing and not see the person. Thank you for sharing.

I hope everything goes well with your knee surgery and you are back on your feet in no time Jesse. You sound so determined here and you will be able to get around without the aid of a wheel chair or walking sticks, I wish you lots of luck and thank you for sharing your story with us here, love Dolly x

You have said so very much in this short though powerful read, walking or wheeling does not distract nor enhance the individual, I love how you mentioned David and how he should be acknowledged and how you both
WILL walk that path, very well written****kahpot

You have the perfect attitude. Your body hears and reacts to what your brain is thinking, and your conscious and subconscious (dreaming) mind says you stand erect and proud. In this piece, you sound determined to demonstrate you are the person you already know you are. I pray that after surgery, you stand tall and write to tell us about it. Best wishes always.

So glad I had one six-star left!!
Yay for you, to realize this.
They told me when I had my heart
attacks...'don't let them define
you.'
So true. You were, are, and will always
be so much more. And the greatest thing...
no one has to convince you of this.
You already know.
A beautiful, so-very-positive outlook!!
Blessings...

Yes, you have always been an inspiration to me. I have known about your heart attacks and am glad they don't define you. You and I are so much more. I appreciate your last sixth star going to this post and thank you so much for thinking of me.
Being positive works for me with my outlook and attitude toward life.
And I have friends like you to thank for this!
Best wishes and have a great weekend!
Jesse

Of course the wheelchair doesn't define you. You have the perseverance and great attitude to make your dreams come. I support you. Yes, greeting both individuals should always be done. I hope you can still see out the window and at least enjoy nature that way until you can go on the trails. Take care. Your story was well thought out.
Respectfully, Jan

Hello JJ, a positive mindset and determination are everything. I guess I was away from FS and recuperating when you became wheel chair bound. I'm very sorry to hear this. You've spoken about your care taker, David, but I didn't know what happened or if it was temporary. Your story reads and flows well, and your message is clear.
Of special note:
So, when you happen to see me in my wheelchair please notice me rather than what I am riding in. Say hello to me, as well as the person who is pushing my wheelchair
(A smile opens doors, and it is speaks a million words.)
Well done. Great photo choice. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

This is well-written, and a commitment to your future as a man who walks on two legs. I'll pray you get that surgery and therapy gets you walking very soon.

I read your entire story with a huge smile on my face. Your faith, optimism and amazing attitude are contagious. The mind can have such a powerful effect on the body, and your mental attitude will take you very far! I share your faith that you will walk again, because no one with such a positive attitude can fail. Thank you for sharing your story and your optism. You are, and will always be, Jesse James Doty, not "the man in the wheelchair."

Hello Michele! Sorry for the delay, you know how life gets in the way sometimes well it has been frustrating and yet encouraging to watch David as he loses his memory and leans on me for support more than ever before.
Thank you so much for the wonderful exceptional rating and encouraging review!
Yes, the mind has a powerful effect on the body and my determination and positive attitude will get me far if I only will listen to my heart that is.
I hope that huge smile is still carrying you through this days and it sure made a difference in mine.
Have a lovely upcoming week, my friend!

It's lovely to hear you helping David just as he helped you. The two of you have a beautiful relationship.
I'm quite familiar with the slipping memory. Until my sister, who is our mom's caregiver, gets over the effects of her severely infected finger, we're taking care of my elderly mom. Sadly, she doesn't remember how to do the most basic things, and I have to keep reminding her and, when nothing else works, doing for her. (We try to avoid doing for her, so she doesn't lose the ability altogether.) I hope David never reaches that point.
Don't worry, though. Interchanges like these will keep that smile on my face. I have no doubt you'll listen to your heart and keep your determination and positive attitude. You and I are never-give-up kinds of folks.
By the way, never worry about delays with me. I know that life gets in the way. It's April 3, and I'm first getting my taxes together to send to my accountant, because life suddenly jumped out in front of me and got in my way. I'm getting back on track, though, and getting my taxes out before it's too late.

When I made David's doctor's appointment for him, he said to me, "the shoe's on the other foot, isn't it?"
Now, I am taking care of him, just as he took care of me. Or rather, I am helping him take care of himself.
I am happy to hear from you as always. You are a good friend.
I hope his problem doesn't get worse but one never knows, does one?
Either way, we never give up!
Jesse

I love your attitude, and it will work wonders for both you and David because it will definitely rub off on him.
Keep up the good work. It will be healing for both of you. You're lucky to have each other.

Thanks, Michele! I most certainly will!

I never doubted it for a moment!

This was fantastically amazing, Jesse. I am so glad that you and David are such positive thinkers. It is one thing to have false hope but you, my friend, hold the highest of hope that you once again will walk and do a fine job at it. Wishing you so very well. It was a wonderful picture.
