This is a well written story. You gave very good descriptions of the scene. The story reads well. The picture you chose compliments this poem well. I enjoyed reading it.

I found your story to be well written and engaging. The story built suspense and the characters well defined. I wonder what you ate to elicit such a dream . . . or was it a touch of precognition about an inescapable fate? I made a couple notes on word choice. Well done.

would explain the missing dentures. -- dentures are artificial replacement teeth. Can you find another way to phrase? Checkerboard gums?
before running smackdown -- never heard of running smackdown. Reeks of fighting in the ring. Smackdab? (Spell-check doesn't like it, but I found it in the American Heritage online dictionary without problems.)

You are welcome, Tom. You threw me for a loop with your contest. I thought there were only hours left, so scrambled to write my story, abridged due to your word limitation, only to discover that you've allowed a lot more time. :-/ I posted it anyway.
