I like this a lot. Interesting how appealing to some-one's vanity can make a person acceptable whereas otherwise they would not be!! Life lesson applicable everywhere. Your story is well written, and conforms to all the story requirements, so sending my very best wishes for your entry!

Thanks for including the notes as well, interesting and informative.

This story, Appealing to Vanity, is a fun tale of a typical household battle between dads and daughters. The funny change in Dad's attitude when he thinks he is the subject of art is hilarious.

A wonderful story with very realistic family characters. I truly enjoyed the ending where the father acknowledges Danielle's talent when he believes the painting is of him. All that discipline melts away when it comes to his ego.
This truly should be a contender in the family contest.
Best wishes,
Mary

Well, I see winner written all over this. Great piece, L. I looked up that painting. Wow, what an artist. The painting has crazy detail throughout. I wish I had a fraction of that kind of talent. Loved the ending. Best of luck but again, I'm sure won't need it. Lol

Thanks for your great review, Ron. I'm pleased it made you look up the painting - all that detail surely is masterfully done. I would never have the patience... it's probably a bit like writing War and Peace; I'd also never have the patience to read such a detailed story.

Love the punchline, LisaMay. I also admire how much you've managed to get into this short write. Somewhat like the items in Danielle's room, each has its place.
Fun write about human peccadilloes in a nuclear family.
Good luck in the prompt
Stay safe and blessed

Our list of acceptable subjects is getting smaller and smaller. LOL All of the things I would probably write. This is a good story and it follows all of the guidelines. Good luck with the contest!

After all, a proud father knows, discovers, identifies and realizes the real talent of art of his daughter, daughter painted her father's portrait which was stuck on their fridge door; father appreciates now; well said, well done; post more. ALCREATOR LITT DEAR (D R)

There's nothing like bathing in the reflected glory of an offspring, or one generation forward, one's offspring's offspring, that is what it's all about! But this, I don't think I've had the opportunity to bathe in thst much talent. Beautifully written Jenny, well done, blessings Roy

I love the painting and I love the way you told the story of Danielle and her father and how he couldn't be prouder when he found her almost finished painting of the laughing cavalier by Frans Hal. This was a very enjoyable read and I am glad that I found it!
Danielle's mother already understood but it was her father who doubted her ability to accomplish anything she set her mind to!
So, thank you for the delightful story, and have a wonderful day!
