Short, wise and to the point. Guns do not belong in the hands of young people, nor unstable people. There would be very few who actually NEED a weapon. Parents need to share some responsibility as apparently he was not legally of an age to hold a fire-arm. Lives ruined forever.

This is a very painful subject to write about. The poem serves as a warning to irresponsible parents who indulge their children. The blood of innocents is shed and so are the tears of those who lose their beloveds.

"Victims' blood formed separate pools". A very poignant ending.

I agree heartily with the wisdom of this write. Although I lean more toward gun restrictions. It seems to me so many mentally unstable people get possession of guns and their rage causes death. But if a man wants to kill, they will find a way.

That is a very wise and accurate realization, but what can we do. As writers we can try to shine a light on this very dark subject.

What a sad flurry of events that just ended with four students dead. When we were kids, we all had guns. We hunted from about 9 years old, and feasted on rabbit, squirrel, and deer. But times have changed and so has the regard for human life, especially in our youth. There must have been signs somewhere along the way with the young killer. Thanks for sharing another of your outstanding poems!

Gun responsibility would certainly be a good start, but I can't see how that can be enforced without tighter controls on the access to guns by minors and people with diagnosed mental issues. Your poem brings yet another tragic shooting into the foreground.

Not that anyone has ever asked me, but I feel nevertheless that it all begins and ends with respect for human life. Anyone who can take the life of another human being, be it adult , toddler, or human embryo, that person has a problem. To quote my aunt Emily, "You need Jesus!"

This work has reached the exceptional level

A sad, sad day for the families in that school and for the young man whose life is forever ruined by this tragic event.
Certainly guns do not belong in the hands of the unstable.
My husband was a hunter and our children grew up with guns in the house. They learned to use them and we all had a healthy respect for them. Having said that , when they were not in use, they were under lock and key.

Good message Nomi.
Blessings
Janet

Thank you Janet. The sad thing about this particular case is the parents supposedly bought the gun for the young man's use.

I think that guns shouldn't be allowed to the public. I believe that only the cops and military should have them to catch the bad guys. It is my opinion. Thanks for sharing! Interesting poem.

There is so much wrong with this story. Your poem touches on several of the 'things.' Good job with the end rhymes, the smooth flow, and the message. Your notes are helpful to understand your position, too.
Respectfully, Jan

I really enjoyed reading this touching poetry. Your scenario fully demonstrated the tragedy that can occur when a gun gets into the wrong hands. I felt an emotional response from this poem and I also found it very moving. It's thought-provoking and heart-rending. Wonderful writing! It deserves six stars if I had any left. God bless you!
