Thank you for sharing this story of your father, and the memory of Pearl Harbour. I am sure you cherish the poetry he left you. The one you shared is very good.

My congratulations on your story. The memories you have are a treasure that I enjoyed you shared with this group. The poem represented a most horrific event in America. I thought your father wrote about it beautifully.

A touching and honest account, which is, according to me, an honor to read.
When an author bares his soul, and lends a piece of his or her life, the respect shoud be of significant importance.
The poem is an extension of your father, words you should keep always.
Bravo.
My very best wishes.

A fine tribute to your father with a wealth of biographical detail. His poem is very atmospheric. There is a haunting aura about it.
I visited the Pearl Habor memorial years ago. It was a sobering experience.

What a cool story for you to share with us. I don't know how your family feels about you telling this story but it I'm glad you did. This should have been a contest entry. Very nice job.

This poem from your father is really lovely. Thank you for sharing it.
A few small grammar corrections on the rest of your piece:
'He was not there; but he remembered. <= should be a comma, not a semicolon
one and half <= should be one and a half
His father was a thief, **AND** not a good one.
When Gil was nine years old, his mother married a farmer twenty-five years older than she **I am not 100% certain of this but I think it should be either *than she WAS* or *than her*.
Everyone, on and off base, were **should be WAS. I know this is a bit weird, breaking the normal singular-plural rules, but in English, *everyone* is a glued compound word connection between EVERY and ONE, with EVERY as a sort of adjective, with the verb acting upon ONE, which is singular and not plural. If this does not make sense, your are right, but you will just have to trust me! Anyone who grew up with English as their mother tongue would say WAS and not WERE here. ** glued to the broadcast.
Thank you for the great read! And, for the reminder about the Pearl Harbor anniversary. Maybe I will write something for it too.

Your father Was a great poet, and this was a great way to honor him. I hope you'll share more of his poems, they have a special quality about them.
I actually didn't know Pearl Harbor happened in December.

This is a marvelous tribute to Pearl Harbor. I always thought it so sad that so many young men had to die on that day. My oldest brother was in
World War 2. I am an old retired woman who is planning to start writing again soon. I enjoyed reading this short story and look forward to reading more of y our writing.
