This is a great addition to the book of idioms! I didn't realize those idioms were from the book of Job. Thanks for the good explanation. Wondering why I missed it. Now I'm singing parts of Handel's "Messiah!" I enjoyed the Russian expressions you included. Blessings.

Hello Helen, Thank you for telling that idioms come from the Bible I like Job, because, as you said in your writing, many
idioms come from the book of Job, which I will see how many
idioms I can find.

You started one a long time ago and you challenged us to write one, too.
But you had all those big huskies. I wonder if you could write us about some dog idioms like "slept like a dog," or "three dog night" or "run with the big dogs" ??

Hello Helen ,
I will see if I can come up a few idioms about dogs.

Your addition to the idiom book is great, Helen. I like the history you gave readers before explaining the idioms. I have heard of all of them. Your words are well chosen and create great imagery in the minds of readers. The image is perfect.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Living daily by faith, trusting without seeing or touching, and through difficult times, many lose strength and their beliefs are tested. We truly need, "the faith of a mustard seed." Thanks for sharing.

As usual, you propensity for "digging deep" into scripture and "nutting it out" gives "vent to" the depth and the influential quality and purpose of scripture to teach, admonish and make man aware, not only of wisdom in adversity, but hope that God is there through it all. Beautifully written my friend, I'm so glad you're here, and there's substance in you character and mind, a mind used by God. Bless you Helen, blessings Roy

You touch on so many of these idioms that we frequently hear and use. I like the expression "patience of Job." Indeed, any child named Job might find the name a challenge. I didn't realize so many of these expressions came from the book of Job. Very interesting presentation. The Bible would be an endless source of idioms, just thinking of those that came ouf of the book of Job. judi

Thank you, Judi and what amazed me was it was all from the 19th chapter of Job. I always dread when my Bible reading focuses on Job and wonder what trials I may face this time. Lol.
Hugs!

You're welcome. That just shows how remarkable the wording of the book of Job was. judi

You taught me a few things here and in an interesting way. One thing that really impressed me was the way in which you pointed out that a Job had plenty problems, but enough patience and faith to cover them. It makes me think about how nice it would be if we employed our faith and patience a bit more, in relation to our problems. The tone of this is conversational and informal, so I enjoyed reading it. You made me give this six stars:)

Thank you for sharing all these idioms from the Book of Job. Amazing how so many phrases that we use regularly come from one of the oldest books in the Bible. I still don't fully understand that one "by the skin of one's teeth." but guess it means practically impossible.

I sounds awful, doesn't it? I guess the thinking is the "skin" is the thinnest and technically, there's no skin on the teeth so it's next to nothing. So I agree with your understanding of it. Thank you so much, Anne! Hugs!

As always, you tell us something very interesting and educational. When we say "the patience of Job," and I say it, when you think about it, it's almost an insult to Job. No one's ever had such patience as he did.
