What a cute story and a great picture to illustrate. Interesting that the mistletoe didn't work but the promise of candy got the desired result. Very well written.

I love this!! The Norman Rockwell picture shows exactly what you wrote! The ekphrastic poetry contest is a sure winner for you! I love the dialogue describing the whole scene as it plays out in the picture! In just 100 words you nailed it! Thank you for posting this on this black Friday where all the shoppers are wildly shopping.
Take good care of yourself,
Jesse

Good one! Your girl has her priorities; she knows what she wants.

Good on you for being prepared.

Your story stays on point, with a strong ending. You got my vote.

This one-hundred-word story, Capturing Her Fancy, has the required word count and illustrates a young lad discovering the right bait to lure in the desired catch. Fun tale.

Our young narrator does seem to have discovered the right bait here. One wonders how much success with women he had as he grew older. Many thanks for sharing my story, Bill.

Great entry, you had all the elements that make up a story, and unlike most of the other entries your story had an ending. Which makes you at the top of the list. The picture added to your fun story.

The Norman Rockwell illustration did it for me!
It must have inspired the author to write such an endearing 100 word story.
Life the way it was... could be... but seems no more, in a world changing from bad to worse.
This cute glance back to happier times is a tonic for dispelling gloom in these days of incipient doom...
Thank you, and Best Wishes for the voting booth!

Bonnie, I share your admiration for Norman Rockwell. His art/illustrations all told a story and that's why Saturday Evening Post loved to use them for their covers. Many thanks for the high praise and those six bright stars.

NR of the Saturday Evening Post knew how to portray American life in the fifties. He did it better than most. Kind regards.

I've always enjoyed Norman Rockwell's art - how it captures everyday life and special moments in a realistic manner, so I was drawn to your story. It is very well written, capturing how to bribe a girl to gain a Christmas kiss. I admire Petey's strategy. Everybody has their price. Good looking girls are often snooty and play hard to get. ("Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker" - when he's older he'll be buying Peggy's drinks.)

I loved Rockwell and have often used his art to inspire my stories. I am delighted you enjoyed this one, Lisa. One must wonder if the narrator continued to succeed with women as he grew older.

I hope Petey didn't use his skills in a manipulative manner. I also hope he found true love and lived happily ever after, being faithful.

A delightful tale of taking a Norman Rockwell painting and adding a story to his picture. Here the girl will not kiss with the traditional mistletoe, but a chocolate bar now that is something different.
Very well written and I enjoyed the story.
Good luck in the contest.
Regards,
Mary
