Hello Liz,
Your title says it all - no winners. There are people on both sides of the isle who give convincing arguments for the way they feel. I lived for years in fear of one thing or another, and I know that its no way to live. We're all going to die of something. That being said, it doesn't mean we should search out trouble. However, the level of distrust in the government has never been higher, and we've been led to believe first one thing and then another so that confusion reigns. People who haven't been vaccinated have died, and those who have been vaccinated have died. I still believe in personal freedom to choose and with those choices we have to live with the consequences. Thanks for sharing this thought provoking post Liz.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

This mother/daughter situation is a stalemate, alas.
I don't think either masks or vaccinations should be mandatory--people can choose to protect themselves or not--why does it matter what others do. Incidentally, my unvaccinated daughter just caught Corona from a vaccinated friend.

This is such a sad story, and it applies to so many families. I haven't seen one of my children for almost two years because he refuses to be vaccinated. He is a grown man and will not listen to me anymore. Needless to say your story touched me and it was good. Shirley

Well, I should keep my opinion to myself on this one, so that I don't fall on the bad graces of those who disagree with my thoughts. But, personally, I can't imagine that at my mother's time of need that I would let her spend her last days alone because of my fear of a shot. And I haven't spoken to my own mother in four years, but she's still my mother, and I would do whatever I could to make her last days the best they could be. Just saying. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

How sad that Emily and her mother shall be apart, when they should be together, enjoying what life they have together. Elizabeth I can fully understand their need to zoom but what a lost?

What a tricky issue. My daughter is a physician and deals with Covid patients every day and insists that the vaccine is a must. Meanwhile, my lawyer son refuses the vaccine, afraid of the long-term effects. It can be a sad and controversial issue. You do a good job of simply presenting the facts of the situation without comments from the peanut gallery.

It does make one wonder if it's all worth it. I do understand her mother's fear. I am offering up prayers for this situation. Thank you for bringing it to us. I know prayers will help.

Liz,

Yet another horror story written by COVID. There are millions. And every one of them is tragic and heartbreaking. I won't judge either of these ladies because I understand that it took a lot of thought and heart to make their decisions. Man. This thing continues to STINK.

Thanks.

I'm afraid I have no sympathy for Emily and I wouldn't even have had lunch with her. Her mother is wise, especially with her compromised immune system. There is a member of Jim's family who takes the same attitude and is upset that she can't see her first great grandson, but not enough to get the shot. She thinks it's more apt to kill her than the virus.

You must have read the piece as soon as I released it--I updated shortly thereafter--I hadn't realized she was taking the test as I wrote!

That would explain it. That was a day when I wasn't getting many messages so had time to stay on top of them. lol

I went back and read that sentence again, and now having read the rest of the story, I can see clearly what you are saying. But what a sad state of affairs, that you would give up that last moments with your mum because you don't trust something that is proving to save lives. I can understand Emily's mother, she has enough to worry about with her own health. At least she has had the vaccination. So many people are still not going for it. Sad, really. :(( xx Sandra

How COVID has affected the country and its leadership has not served people well. I had good friends die during COVID and I could not attend their funerals. Politics and hyperbola that have sometimes surrounded the sickness, challenge logic. Emily's situation is a sad one that has been OFT repeated.
