This is a tender mercy of a poem... Resonates as I recall earlier this year visiting the small town and church where my own parents were baptized, confirmed, married and had their funeral mass. It, too, is open yet with a very small congregation. I felt their spirits there with me. I remembered
Matthew 18:20: ""For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
Beautiful heartfelt poem of grace and faith!

This poem, His Remnant, touches all of us who have returned to our childhood church to discover that -- you can never go home. The part of grace in the work, and God's faithfulness comes through well.

This is a beautiful poem, great rhyming, and easy to read. So sad that so many churches now stand almost empty. We are still not allowed to have everyone in church at the same time, but I am happy to say that even with social distancing, we are able to gather, and worship the Lord. We have several new families coming now who were not coming before. While some may have fallen away, the Lord is still drawing people to Himself.

Hello Janet, this is a lovely entry to the Faith Poem contest. It is very moving - remembering the pew your mother sat in. It is true, church attendance is dwindling, and many with only a few of the older members present.
It is a sad poem, full of memories and the religious element is not overdone. It is a lovely read, well written. Nice to read your work. I have heard of a several people on Fanstory who have retired to the Carolinas.
Sounds like a popular and lovely place.
Warm regards and good luck in the contest - Dorothy x

Thank you Dorothy for this thoughtful and encouraging review and for the extra special sixth star. Greatly appreciated.
When we retired, we had one daughter in NYC, a son in Alaska and a daughter in NC. So it was a no brainer. We love New York and Alaska but would not want to live there. :))))

My grandmother was a very religious lady and going to catholic churches always reminds me of her. Excellent poem with lovely imagery and presentation. The rhyme doesn't seem forced and the poem flows well. I hope to read more of your work.

Lovely, lovely! No matter how few there are to worship, He cherishes them. There is sadness here and peaceful acceptance. You have done a very fine job with this poem and memory and nostalgia.

Oh, I wish I could do that, Janet. My home church burned to the ground years ago. Even if it was standing I could not visit because it is two thousand miles away and I cannot travel. This is nicely written. Good Luck. Nancy:)

Your poem and your author's notes were such a pleasure to read. To sit where your mother prayed is such a lovely memory, and even though not many people got to church anymore, those who do know they already have a place in Heaven. This is so noce, Janet. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xxx
