Ah, Chris, thanks for your wonderful review! So glad you took the time to read. Sometimes ideas just come, don't they? This is a lesson my dad instilled in me (maybe we are just introverts and would rather listen, hehe!). Wishing you a great week ahead!

Oh yes, the old wisdom is still better than the new. They keep trying to make mankind's earth a better place by creating more acceptable, it's a sort of legislation by osmosis but there's nothing better than, "do unto others, as you would have them do unto you!" Beautifully written, blessings Roy

AMEN!!!!!!!!!! I love the moral of your story. I used to tell my first graders that God gave them one mouth and two years for a reason. He wanted us to listen twice as much as we talk. Thank you for sharing this contest entry wit us and good luck.

This poem is absolutely delightful. I love the story and truly it's your grandfather who is full of wisdom. When I was a child I didn't have either set of grandparents. My father's parent died when he was young and my mom's parents died in England during the WW2 Blitz. This poem made me feel for a short time, like I had a grandpa. Thanks so much for sharing. :)

Oh, how very fun to hear from you! It makes me sad to think you didn't get to enjoy your grandparents here on earth, but I have no doubt they watch over you even still. Thank you for taking the time to read and write to me! (and for the wonderful review and stars!)

This is outstanding. Absolutely perfect for the theme. It is very readable, and has a nice metre and flow and excellent rhyme. It is suitable for children of all ages - and adults of all ages. Love your Author's Notes, title and image. So well crafted from beginning to end. Very best wishes for your entry in the contest.

What a great story poem! I always liked owls - they seem wise but the barred owls here are pretty darn noisy. They haven't met Ollie and his grandpa. My favorite lines were:
"More wisdom comes from listening than anything you say.
You learn a lot and understand another's views and ways."
Hope you do well in the contest!

Ah, thank you for your kind and encouraging review! Owls are cool creatures. We don't have many around these parts, but your barred owls do sound annoying! Thanks for letting me know your favorite part!

I still find them cool. They sound more like monkeys. 😊

Ooo, interesting! (or should I say, "Whoo?") :)

This is a good one. It should do well in the contest. I love owls. One of my favorite poems is "The Owl and the Fox". I wrote a poem about that poem which I will post someday.

Oh, thank you, Paul! I am honored you took the time to read my version of the wise old owl. I have always loved owls, too. And...my, my! I just looked up and read "The Owl and the Fox!" What a crafty, heart-wrenching adventure THAT took me on! I will watch for your poem about that poem one day!
