A sad story of a widower not yet being able to adjust to being alone. He is trying to keep feeding the birds and watering the tree because of her love for them. It is commendable that he honors her memory, but it seems that he hates doing these chores and it grinds on him. Maybe he should look for something else to honor her memory.
regards,
mary

I wonder if George feels a little like I did after the deaths of my Mom and my husband. It made no, but letting something they cared about go because it wasn't my thing, felt like letting a little more of them die, so I keep doing the things I knew they would doing in their memory.

I have to admire George for continuing to feed the birds and look after the plants. I'm pretty sure that most men, at least the ones who never enjoyed these chores, would have easily let these slide after the loss of their wives. Well told, Liz.

Good job, reach out there and grab an idea and run with it where ever it might take you. Your humor seems to find a bit of a joke wherever it wanders. And picking up the trash (four bags) great job!.

I am sorry that he is not very happy about his late wives hobbies. May be he should give the birds away. Even the ficus tree is out to get him.
I love when you jot out each day's ordinary incidents..but they are by no means ordinary for some one who really listens

Yes! I intended to show how I continually mess up the associations. I often do this sort of crossing out as a device to poke fun at my foibles.

ell, a sad tale of a widower's lament. May be he should find some company to chase away his blues and take to some hobby his hear will accept. Maybe grow exotic plants and have a couple of pets. Another slice of life seen from close quarters. Thanks for sharing.

That's so nice of you to catch up with your recently widowed friend. I liked all the famous duos that you used employing at least one of their names. I would think George could eventually stop feeding the birds as it doesn't seem to be his joy unless it helps him feel close to her.

Is there anyone you don't know in your town? What town do you live in? I know you mentioned it at one point, and I've forgotten. I'm only asking because it always seems so charming, what with a Town Common, and you are always (apparently) on foot. I don't know, I don't walk anywhere anymore. It seems like the settings you depict are straight out of the Hallmark Hall of Fame movies my wife used to love to watch at Christmas time.

Hmm, this is certainly general non-fiction of an everyday event. I think this is also called slice of life fiction. Perhaps Tom can add that category in the next update. I don't think you need the crossed out names though. Unless it means something.

Well written slice of life.

You packed a lot of information in this story. Were you arrested for dumping the trash you'd collected in the woods? George and his wife Martha were your witness? What a drama and you have to write a script with dialogues and all. I'm very interested in reading it. Or just a story with more details will be fine.

Well done.
