Here you wittily show how one-upmanship is never a nice game to play in a relationship. The male competitive streak (also exhibited in women) can be very damaging to harmonious times. The Dick here appears to have been an insecure personality type.

Great story telling and such a sneaky and well planned out bit of revenge-He did have it coming. I would like to be good at chess-I like the idea of it but I am just not dedicated enough. I enjoyed your story!

Your husband was so weird. Why was he so insecure as his own sense of self-worth that he kept bugging you about the chess rank? I don't have the patience for chess but we had a chess champion here once.
