Greg figured how to deal with his mother. Pretty clever keeping her on that mower. Maybe she'll let him play baseball after that. Great work with the colors. That fits in so well. Great that the name of the family so interested in gardening was Gardener. Excellent work with your characterization. Very enjoyable and funny. judi

Priceless...you are a great humor person... I am still laughing and it hurts...
Love the artwork and the pink stuff. Poor Mrs. Gardner - may she recover without lingering twirlaphobia - and burn that ping pong paddle!!

Now that is a story to share with the neighbourhood watch. My brother dug a hole in the back yard, camouflaged it, then coaxed her to come have a look, she fell into the hole, he stayed away from home for two days, then got the beating of his life, but said it was worth it, heh heh, well done, Liz, blessings Roy

I see this is fiction so I can laugh at Mrs. Gardener tooling around the yard on her lawnmower. She did sort of deserve it as she was a true helicopter mom. I had a friend who had a mother like this one. I always felt sorry for him as he missed years of fun. Well written.

The part about the lawnmower and the paddle was true!

Hello Liz.
What a great idea. Stick ma on the tractor without teaching her how to turn it off. That way she can drive around a few hours with no alternatives. Everybody almost got what they wanted. Unfortunately, Greg was not able to escape the inevitable retribution from mom after riding a lawnmower all day.

Oh, how I remember those ping-pong paddles! So does my brother. Nowadays, young parents do not want to bruise their child's feelings so such tools have fallen by the wayside...or they are now just being used for ping-pong. This is a very funny story and I love that your neighbor's name was Gardner!

This is funny and very imaginative, Liz. I don't know how much, if any of it is true, but I cheer for Greg, at least until his mother caught up to him with the ping-pong paddle. Great piece of humour.

Way to go, Liz. I was truly expecting the lawnmower to cruise wildly through the flower garden or suddenly stop as it smacked the side of the Cadillac. I guess it was the only way Greg was going to get what he wanted so the pain was worth the gain! Smiles, Carol

Greg just had to be himself. He had rather unusual parents. All four of my boys played football and we were a military family. The Army posts have what's called Youth services. They provide activities for the youth. Greg was probably in 7th or 8th grade and played football on one of the teams. It was a the beginning of the season and one of the first practices. I took him there. The coach had not arrived yet, so I waited. Another boy walked up literally covered with all sorts of pads added to his uniform. The other boys started to tease him. He finally said, "It's the only way Mom would let me play." The boys stopped teasing and nodded in understanding.

Glad Greg got at least one good punch in on his overly protective, dingbat mom. That isn't usually the case since they hold all the control. LOL. Ride Mrs. Gardner ride. Thanks for sharing.
