Hello Katharine :)
I enjoyed reading your rhymed poem. It has great meter and I love the feel of narrative throughout. Your voice/character comes through. Your phrase 'speed of worms' made me laugh - it's fresh and a nice alternative to the snail that a lack of speed is usually paired with.

Your social life is buzzing! I love that you meet with friends each weekend, whether it be Saturday or Friday, making the time and effort to get together and cook for each other is a wonderful thing to do.
I feel your pain about the traffic on a Friday afternoon. It's much the same over here, and for years, I would sit in that Friday traffic, impatiently waiting to get home and start the weekend. These days, the traffic isn't my problem as I finish work at 3pm, then walk on to Rebecca's school to collect her and then we walk home together. The weekend starts around 4pm for us!

Loved reading you this morning.
Best wishes, Debra :)

Oh, the walking home with your daughter sounds perfect. for you both. What a lovely end to a day.
Yes, we have a good time - even dress up - for me, a change from jeans, which are generally my daily fare, unless I have doc appointment or something. Tonight, it's an Italian restaurant for this divine shrimp (which I got the recipe for if you ever want a good one) :)
And Sat. traffic's not quite so bad.
You really sound like you have a very happy family life. That's wonderful.
Oh, I watched the service today for the Prince. I am also an Episcopalian, and thought it was beautiful, with just the family and planned by the Prince. What did you think?

    Hi Katharine :)

I hope you enjoyed your shrimp! Sounds lovely - I'd love the recipe ;)

Prince Philip's funeral was very moving. It made me sad seeing the Queen sat by herself. She looked so small...

We do have a very happy family life, mostly! The girls are both quite hormonal and Ben is a torment - so we have a few explosions!

I also fear that my children are becoming sloths... the pandemic, forcing us all to stay at home, has forced them to bond more closely with technology than I would've liked. Now that they can mix more, they are reluctant to leave their screens...

    Anyway, time for bed!

I keep forgetting the time difference.
I understand that depending on cell phones and tablets, since the lock-downs, has been a problem - among others. Thank heavens everything's open here, though masks are required most places. Personally, I think Fauci has ruined more people's lives while he rakes in the money. But, enough of that.
Teens are tough. will school be open, there, this fall? Your job sound fun, and patience-laden:)
    will send recipe separately.
    bye

I'm so glad that you and your friends are still meeting regularly. I know the pandemic has forced many to meet on porches with a space heater nearby. I know that you posted recipes and can confirm you're a great cook! This line made me chuckle "The traffic moves at speed of worms." I think even the traffic along with the flu season seemed better last year.

Thank you, Helen! Tonight, there are just two of us as one went out of town to be with a new great grandbaby. She is something, a cancer survivor twice, with a rod in her leg and she has more energy than most people. My friend I'm meeting tonight, also a cancer survivor, is a plants and bird person like me, and we're both Episcopalians. She called and told me the funeral service for the Prince was on, which I was so glad I got to see. I called my sister and daughter, too. Did you see it?

No, I don't know when it was broadcast here but our thoughts are for the Queen and all the adjustments she and the Royal family are going through. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have fun with your friend. Your energetic mom sounds like mine.

I see it was a "friend" who went out of town not your "mom." Sorry! Lol.

The poem speaks volumes about the challenges of Friday afternoon traffic, a frustration felt by many. The piece has a good rhythm and flow. Nicely presented.

Thank you, Sharon. I'm not sure why the rating explanation was included?

I've lived in large cities where the rush hour traffic can last for several. Where I live now, it's not so bad, thank goodness. I don't envy you the long drives. Those meals you prepare yourselves must really be delicious! It sounds like fun as you show off your best dishes. Enjoying being with your friends must make the travel time worth it. judi
