It's not fair that someone whose skills are desperately needed, and who wants so much to be a nurse and help people, has to retire on a disability pension so soon in her young life. How sad you must be to see this happen to your child. Life is very cruel at times. I'm so sorry, Liz. Sandra xx

We were stunned she got approved--it must have been because of the cognitive deficits. She has no obvious mobilty issues, normally, for MS you need loss of use of limb to qualify.
She starts a new twice-annual infusion treatment next week.
Thanks for your support!

Oh this is such a sad story, particularly the ending. She had and has so much to give, and the grief and indignity of being counted as 'worthy' of receiving disability support is heart-rending, and makes for a real roller-coaster of emotions when that is mixed with relief at knowing that one will have some form of financial support. So sorry to read this story! But so well recounted at the same time.

I felt sad reading the plight of your dear daughter. So much of trials and tribulations at a young age. I am glad she will be taken care of by the state. Snmall consolation. When God closes one door, I am sure he will have many opening for her. I wish her all the best in future. God Bless!

I understand how that feeling would make Lauren feel although I haven't 'been there, done that.' You did a great job telling of this process, Liz. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes and prayers for Lauren.
Respectfully, Jan

i am so happy that she no longer has to battle the State. I recall my husband's stress over the fact that his work would no longer let him do his job because he was disabled, but the government kept saying we need more proof. It's crazy how our system works. Happy there is a blessing found for your daughter. Smiles - Carol

Thanks for the news. It sounds bittersweet but I'm so glad that she qualified and will get the needed disability benefits. My young friend is going through the same process in CA. It sounds like an arduous tasks to go through that application process.

I can see how that would be just as devastating as it would be a relief. For such a young, educated and dedicated woman to be struck with this disease is just not fair. On the positive side, like you say, she won't have to worry about trying to earn a living anymore. She can stay home whenever she feels the need.

I'm so glad that Lauren was granted her disability without having to fight it out for three years to receive what she rightfully deserves. Very few win first time out and she wouldn't have either if they felt there was anyway they could refuse. Now, I'm just hoping she has a miraculous recovery. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Liz :)
I can imagine the mixture of emotions that Lauren must've felt when she received her letter, ruling her 'disabled.' Completely understandable and totally overwhelming. I bet she felt exhausted, having waited for the ruling, anticipated having to appeal and then not having to... The tears will have come as such a relief for her.
Sending you my best, Debra :)

I can understand her mixed feelings. How tragic for one so young to be disabled for life, but how fortunate that the wait to be eligible for a lifetime of funds has come through. I hope she will be able to get the necessary treatment to be as free of pain as possible. I know how this must be painful for you as a mother. We suffer when our children suffer.
