Charming story--so true--I confess to being selfish with my spare time--I volunteer only if I want to--rarely was asked to! So glad the "Dems" don't have to do with politics--way too much posted on that stuff. Well written--nice touch of humor!

What an interesting observation of a teacher chaperoning a dance. I would think it most true you would learn more about the students in their extra-curricular activities than simply only academics.

I found this to be a most engaging read.

Just one little section seems to be missing a word:

Janice, I've learned over my career that there are dems that do and dems that don't. I've just don't bother dems that don't!"

Congratulations to you for being one of the dems that do because that is how things get done.

Many thanks for sharing. :)
Gloria

This biographical fiction is well written and its theme resonates within many professions, not just educators. There are always those willing to go above and beyond, unfortunately there are as many who, as you state in your story " work to the proverbial clock". Going above and beyond should never be regretted. Great story.
