very well done sonnet. You nailed the traditional form which is supposed to be about love and the love for your grandson shines through I like this stanza the best
But still today, years gone, your song I hear;
the rumble of your boots lives on my stairway.
When I extend my arms, I see you clear
and in my dreams, I'll see your smile I dare say

I love it. For a very first sonnet, it's amazing. You may not think you have the rhyming gift, but you certainly do. I'm sure Anthony is sharing it with the rest of the angels, pointing to the couplet at the end with pride. I, too, love sonnets and have written many. You'll find that the meter and rhyme become perfectly natural after a few attempts at the form.
P.S. My nephew is another Anthony. I wonder how he'd feel if I wrote a poem for him.

Oh, how nice of you, dear Mary.

Hi, Amada,
So nice to hear from you. I am doing a program on poetry for my club. Do you mind if I use Anthony's poem as part of it?
-
Of course, Mary. You can use Anthony's Sonnet.

Your sonnet is very well done, good rhyming and rhythm. I like the lines: "But still today, years gone, your song I hear;
the rumble of your boots lives on my stairway."
The memory of our loved ones linger on

You got the rhyme scheme down, the meter was pretty close; there were a couple of awkward breaks like this face to face break in stanza two, but what really came through were these poignant images, the image of the young man walking up the stairs of your house, the robin flying like the upraised arms of the little boy, the image of the car wreck. It really brings the memories to life, and we feel your pain as you look to heaven for the hope of seeing him again. I thought the robin image was a real powerful opening that drew us into the poem and then you had a strong ending too. estory

This is so very beautiful and while I have read it before during class, it seem more heart moving now. So well done and presented with dignity and grace. A wonderful Shakespearean sonnet, my dear!

What a beautiful, timeless tribute to your beloved grandson. Thank you for sharing this piece of your soul with us. It was vivid and touched my heart as I read it. I couldn't even choose a part that I loved the most, because it was all wonderful and straight from the heart. When we lose a loved one, words can feel so insufficient, but your poetry transformed words into a powerful, forever tribute.
Best,
Alexandra

A lovely sonnet which must have been so hard to write given the subject. The emotion was apparent and the rhymes flowed in a natural fashion without seeming to be forced. Very touching.
