Hello Elizabeth,
I enjoyed this relatable piece.
Engaging and witty as always, although I'm disappointed to learn that you aren't actually a leprechaun!
Thank you for the smiles :D
Best wishes, Debra

I admire those who, unlike me, are figuratively-fluent. Yet, I admit to preferring not having to work so hard to construe the meanings.

Bottom line: I chose Emerald to disassociate myself from the dick.

I bow my head to those who are metaphorically gifted, and can turn a phrase so uniquely I am left secretly wondering "Why can't I do that?"--
As it is it is almost funny how many times I've read about pearl-white moons, ebony velvet nights, howling winds, et al...
I am certain I am guilty along the way of falling into that trap! Your point is well taken...
BTW--Greene to Emerald? Your writing is a very real gem to me!

I KNEW you were a genius! Sometimes I think Marriage should be an installment situation... You know? To love and to cherish for four years, with option to renew...like a book club membership!--Wish I could say I'm kidding... Karenina

I enjoy "outside the lines" unique metaphors! I color outside the lines too! Just once I want to read "The moon was as white as the lint in my pocket...". K

I like how you unravel the writing of metaphors and even in your self-deprecating expose about the skill of writing, you actually show us the metaphors and similes that you claim you don't have. I like your choice of "Emerald" - a strong stone that lasts!

Well, Emerald is literal as regards to color--hadn't thought of other implications. Bottom line: I chose Emerald to disassociate myself from the dick.

This is so funny: As for me, whenever a wind, especially one that is metaphorical, threatens to disrupt my story, I grab my cast of characters and run for cover. " Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings, I had a blast.

Yes, when choosing surnames, we should should choose one that doesn't suit our personality, but is a wish for a dashing, vibrant form, which is an act of faith, rather than being up to our eyeballs in mud. Heh heh, well done Liz, be happy with the gift...at least you've got one. Good job, blessings Roy
