Hi Jim, So they have finally made the decision to tell the story. I'm glad, because that means the tale can be continued. Otherwise your novel would have ended rght here. It's very well written and I'm looking forward to readng on. Ulla:)))

Another brilliant chapter that leaves you wanting more story. The perfect descriptions and dialogue continue.
I think I need to go back and catch up on some of the story.
One question: Are all the men in Wales named Tom? LOL

Really enjoyed this.

    Thank you for this splendid six star review. In the era about which I am writing Tom was one of the most popular boy's names.

So the truth is starting to come out. I am glad it is. Heather sees no reason to continue protecting her brother. Her husband wasn't threatened by her feelings for Tom W. That is a good thing.

This chapter shades some light about what really happened to Hattie and the Tom's from her life. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Tom W's reputation has remained sullied for years. He took the blame on his broad shoulders and disappeared from their lives forever. I think it is wonderful that it will all be sorted out so he can be known for the kind loving person he was. Well done, Jim. Nancy:)

Ah, it's good to hear the whole story from Heather and Tommy, with more details than we knew before. The development of their love and confidence in their relationship is heartwarming. Who knew that quiet young Tommy had been learning tricks while spying on Hettie! Love that bit of humour thrown in.

I think I am working through this backwards...but then that's okay...
Ah, duty and scarifice always a two edge axe, and often a question for others of trust. These duties, they can dog step to the end of this life...and into others...

Brilliant--captivating backstory fills in the gaps--I guess now it will be just Joliffe vs suicide--which at least pins down which Tom should be considered the suspect. Stunning dialog.

The plot thickens! These are very interesting developments. Although I'm just over a third of the way through your previous novel, I don't feel as much at a loss for understanding the complexities of the relationships discussed here. And it puts Tom Warburton in a much more positive light. Heather is an incredibly sympathetic character, along with her husband.

Some minor suggestions:

You be needing a bit of time, Heather'.
-->
You be needing a bit of time, Heather.'

...even though he had been devoted to selfish, pursuits,
-->
...even though he had been devoted to selfish pursuits,

***

It may turn out that Hettie's remains may be re-interred in consecrated ground, after all, and that Warburton's name may be cleared.

Will the law even be changed? Or is that a matter of public record, not subject to the decisions of the author here? Perhaps it may all be neatly wrapped up, by the end of the story.

A moving post with a married couple that is fully confident in their love that they can share their deepest secrets. My favorite part was the description of how Heather never gave much thought to her own sacrifices because she acted on duty as so many women did and still do.

    My own mother, in a much lesser way was a victim of that 'dutiful daughter' thing as the youngest of five children. Born in 1900, she had to continue to look after her ailing mother. She was well into her thirties before she was able to get married.

    Many thanks for this wise review.
