So you're hubby was at a loose end after his retirement, the advice I received was "be sure you have some hobby set up when you retire" it was no problem for Elaine, who retired eight years before me. But now there aren't enough hours in the day, heh hah. Beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy
Typo : I'll ask(ed) him what I need to do. 2 : until Glen returned (in) May.

There wasn't enough hours in the day for him either after we moved to a bigger place. With everything new and updated and a lot that too small to grow anything, he didn't have anything to do but cook and listen to music and read. He needed to outside. Thanks for the review.

Dear Beth, The most telling sentence in the story was when you wrote " I wasn't about to miss taking advantage of getting to know the current version of the man I'd been married to for 31 years." I guess that 45 minute planning trip to go to visit Carol, kind of gave you, an indication.

Thank you Suzanna. It was very unlike him to that unpredictable and ready to do something without giving it much thought.

My question is...Did you ever settle down? You did a lot of traveling that is for sure. LOL This was interesting. One of my Brother-in-laws was a Chiropractor. He set up a practice in Florida, but I believe his newlywed wife became jealous of his interaction with other women and he quit and became a Carpenter. Your posts are interesting, Beth. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. We did settle down in the Chattanooga area and that is where are four of my children are as well. Don is a Chiropractor who could just as easily be a carpenter because he is very skilled and fast at doing that kind of work.

Spur of the moment trips can end up some of the most enjoyable moments spent together as a family. The spirits are liven up for the unexpected. I remember those days.

Thanks for review. I agree. Those kind of trips didn't happen often but they were usually the best kind.

I love this idea so much Beth, and I like your approach of talking to him. I've begun something similar in journal form for my own children. How special it is that you have put these memories to paper in such detail. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you so much for the review and lovely comments. I'm glad to hear you are doing this too for your children. I thought by talking to my husband throughout the book, it would strengthen their understanding of our relationship and help them know him better as well. I really appreciate the six stars.

A very interesting chapter. Evan seems to have made a 180 turn in his planning. Sounds like he was doing a lot of thinking and realizing things have changed so much that the old plans were no longer attractive. You must have been thrilled at this new turn of events.

Thank you Ralf. It is true that he almost became a different person after he retired. It helped our relationship and yes I was relieved that we wouldn't be moving to the country. Iran is a single country which was under an embargo. (Wouldn't Iran was be right?) were doesn't sound right.

That IS and amazing change in your husband to suddenly make a change like that. But perhaps losing his mom made him ready for changes.
Thanks for including the Iran-Contra affair. My favorite Sesame Street comedy was with Kermit and Cookie Monster under interrogation similar to what Oliver North went through.
Suggested changes:
go get you stuff together and lets go (your stuff together and let's)
Carol was working in Chattannago she (Chattanooga. She)

Thank you for the review. Yes he did make a turn around. His mother was part of it and being free of job he wasn't fond of was the other. I think the last 30 years of our life together drew us closer. I can believe I misspelled Chattanooga.

I have heard of Chattanooga and now I know it's near Atlanta. I have a childhood friend who lives in Atlanta and I'm thinking I should visit her sometimes. Maybe we can visit Chattanooga.

Well done.

Thanks so much for the review and the comments. Both are interesting places to visit. If you come to Chattanooga give me a call. Maybe we go have lunch together.

You are living in Chattanooga now. Sure. It's only one hour and fifteen minutes away from Atlanta. I will try to do so when we can travel again.

I really have enjoyed your memoir, Beth, from when I read it before. It's warm and loving, and yet it covers your concerns and misgivings as well. I had to laugh when you were telling Even that you didn't know him. Those are the things that make a memoir more identifiable to the reader.

I have a few things I noted as I read it. You may want to consider them.

Now, you were beginning to realize that if we moved back to country, [back to THE country.]

His house was far enough away that you felt nervous when you were there alone at night. [From this point on (at least for a while--I'm not finished yet), you talk as though Evan was there alone. Is this something you need to address here?]

In March of that year, there was a political scandal in the news. [This is a rather long paragraph that, as far as I can see, has nothing to do with the story-line. Just something to consider if you're looking for ways to tighten it up.]

In April, I went to Mississippi with you,[Now here you are in the scene. It only raises the question to the reader about where you were before.]

I'll be waiting for the next edition!

Thank you Jay, I really appreciate the review and comments and suggestions. I mentioned in the paragraph before that he was making trips to the country alone. He had retired, but the children and I were working. He didn't like being there alone. I went on a weekend later. I'm fixing the spag and breaking the long paragraph.

This is the first chapter with NO mishaps! No matter; I was still enthralled.

President Reagan made a speech [OMIT COMMA] about it, although it was never clear that

said "Well, go get [you=YOUR] stuff together and [lets=>LET'S] go.

... in Florida Hospital . (omit space before period)

Carol was working in [Chattannago=>CHATTANOOGA] [semicolon] she was by herself in the rental apartment [OMIT COMMA] until Glen [would return=>RETURNED] in May.

Thank you Elizabeth, I appreciate the review of chapter that didn't include any mishaps. I think I put too many in the last one, which I'm pretty sure, you didn't review. I had so many that Robyn gave me four stars, but I got more six stars on it than usual so that was okay. Thanks for the heads up on the misplace commas I had corrected the misspellings.
