I read with interest this well-written poem about retirement. I am also a retired guy and I always held the firm view that I might have retired from the job, but never from my mind. There are so many we can do after retirement to be of help to society. Thank you for sharing!

Hello JLR, shunning retirement and back to work. Then along came the
'stupid bug' - so good that you can take it so lightly LOL! I don't like the look on the guy in the picture - don't want him jabbing my arm. Keep writing and stay safe - Dorothy x

This is a sad poem but we can change it in our life. It doesn't have to be: "This resulted in not much laughter too much Netflix, I need a restart! Then on one snowy day it came, Wham! This retirement is a disaster! It must be a new job, an upstart."

I enjoyed this poem. Its humor made me smile and think of retirement in a new light. Retirement can be a new job, and it can rest on our experience and hobbies.

I enjoyed your challenge poem for the club. Your picture and words pair nicely. Your lines read smooth with a good story line. Your words create good imagery--I could see everything you mentioned about retirement. Seems to be something that isn't quite what was hoped for.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

I can see that retirement coupled with this dammed virus could drive some mad. I have so many hobbies that I wonder how I ever found the time to do a regular job.

Don't complain. Write more poetry. I'm close to retiring. I'm just getting paid and writing at home. I'm happy now except I can't travel. We love to travel. I love to go and visit my son who is leaving for Mexico soon.
I'm getting a lot of writing down, though. My second will be out soon but I have to read it over once more.
Enjoy your retirement.

Thanks Lisa, I love to write and that I do. But I find that being so sedentary is not conducive to good overall health even though I have been able to swim 30-45 minutes everyday. I am back to work for a couple of years. Productivity is the driver. Once Covid is all long gone and things settle into a new normal, I will get back to travel and seeing the kids and grandkids, Greece and China are still in my bucket.

I haven't been to Greece either. I have a lot left, too because we kept going back to the same place like Germany for six times and Croatia, twice. These are nice places. I want to visit New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Peru, Brazil, Antarctica, Galapagos Island...
I usually takes walks twice a day or a walk and a cross country skiing for one or two hours.

Hello JLR,
Oh no, I love that I am retired and never want return. I retired to do all may many projects and hobbies. And. I had so many. The best thing in life I have done outside of marriage and having my only son. Sound like you kinda miss the camaraderie of your associates though. Never had Netflex personally. Sorry retirement as a disaster for you. I like this poem. Go back to work. ha ha. Well done on this story in your poem.

Thanks Joyce...I will put a couple more years in the saddle. Once Covid is all long gone and things settle into a new normal, I will get back to travel and seeing the kids and grandkids, Greece and China are still in my bucket.

You are welcome. Enjoy Greece and China when you get there:-)

JLR:
I should read this poem to my husband. I suspect he
would agree with you, to some extent. When people
ask him if he wants to work part-time or do volunteer
work, he just smiles wryly and says his "honey-do" list
keeps him busy enough. Good luck in the contest.

Yes, it's like that for some retired couples - and all the honey-do lists grow. I like how you did your sheshire poem especially in the last two stanzas. Your first stanza is lacking a sixth line and the lines are not always 9 syllables.
