Wow! Thanks Charmy Chuckle for your kind words. I remember critting one of your pieces -- some time ago, I believe. You're young. God! how I wish I could have written as prolifically as you when I was your age! Keep it up.

I will admit at first I had trouble getting into this piece, but in sticking with it I found a gem. I find your unabashed enthusiasm enjoyable, and I really made me look forward to other installments. I think your engaging style and comfortableness with the reader make the piece seem almost like a one sided conversation without the thought of "Is this guy every gonna shut up?" I am curious as to what your preferred genre is, but am guessing that you, like the rest of us, dabble in a little bit of everything. I am going to look for other pieces of yours. Good job.

mmichelle, I do really appreciate your honesty in critting this. I'll have to go back over the beginning and see where the problem is in "getting into it." I hope I don't disappoint you in my future installments. Thanks for taking time to read it and for your kind comments.

Well written indeed. I enjoyed reading about your time spent here on fanstory. I find it interesting to know how you came up with your name and how you come to rate each write. I have not found a firm line for rating as I keep moving it .... lol.
Flow is smooth, no thoughts left hanging, easy and fun to read. Thanks for sharing. Missy01

Hey, Missy, you are so kind in your comments. Thank you so very much. It is daunting to have this prologue be so favorable reviewed and wonder how I'm going to follow it up. I'll try, though. Stay tuned.

I enjoyed reading this very much and I can totally relate! I've run into a lot of the same problems that it seems you have on here and am trying to fine tune my critting as well. As it turns out, I also work in insurance. I'm an underwriter though so for appropriate appearance purposes, we should probably snarl and scratch at eachother whenever possible! =)

I like they way that you wrote this, your thoughts on critters and writers, and that you wrote this in the first place! I would be honored if you could stop by and crit my work some time!

Hi tenayaledeux00, I already answered this once, but somehow it didn't take. Probably floating around CyberFanStory space. If it lands on your computer along with this, please excuse the duplication. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Such high praise, indeed, coming from an underwirter. Do you guys really look both ways when crossing a one way street? Or is that characteristic of an actuary? Either way, I am so pleased with your crit. I gave you one, too, on the Halloween story. Hope it's helpful.

How funny, I actually do look both ways when crossing a one way street! Hey, you never know when some psycho will come barreling down the wrong way in a bad mood! Actually, that happened just on Tuesday in San Francisco, he took out 18 people!! So there, our caution is justified! By the way, actuaries are number and statistics freaks (we underwriters make fun of them all the time!)... underwriters are guided by logic... numbers and statistics are tools but logic rules!

By the way, you deserved all of the praise... you truely did.

I'll take 10% off on your next visit if yuo come by and check in on me again!

Oh Master Critter...this is absolutely delightful and I can hardly wait to read each additional installment of your "Crit Critology"! I joined FanStory in May and I feel like my writing has improved because of the kind help most critters have taken the time to share with me. I do know that a writer's style can be loved by one reader and hated by another...but that's one of the thrills of writing. I know I can't please everyone but I really appreciate someone who takes the time to read and write a review - it means so much to me and no matter what their comments are, I try to thank them for taking the time to crit my work. I think your installments are going to be lots of fun to read, Jay, but will also put some of the aspects of FS into perspective, huh? If this Prologue is just a hint at what's to come...you've got me by my enormous critter butt already, my friend! LOL :>)

IndianaIrish... One of my favorite people. Thank you -- wow! -- thank you for your overwhelming review! Keep your eyes and ears open and hang on! (Let's see 3 cliches in just one sentence.) I'm working on the second installment now. It should be ready in a couple of weeks. It does my heart good that people of your caliber of writing is reading it.

Okay. *takes notes* That's the proper way to indent. LOL!!! See, I had to come look for myself. When are you going to put some dialogue in here so I can see that too? (I hope you're laughing)

I think you've summed up the Fanstory experience pretty acurately. I know I've had a hard time balancing out my reviews, being fair, taking time to help when I offer criticism, and it's hard. It's harder when there's so many errors and when you try to address every one, the writer blows you off. See, I was there once, one of those people who just popped their stuff up (although, I've always used a spell checker, thank goodness), so I know with the proper guidance, people improve if they really want to. But they have to want it. <--key. And why they bother to write without wanting to know how to get better is absurd. I guess that's what gets me bummed about reviewing. I know I should do more. Reading this piece has made me want to.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm interested in the upcoming installment...and hoping there will be dialogue...although I don't forsee any ;-)

Scotchy, thank you for so readily nipping at my hint and reading this. I do appreciate it. So... you want dialogue. You'll regret you ever mentioned that: One of my pieces is nothing but dialogue, well, except for a one paragraph ending. I've been told it should be put in script format, but, for some reason I resist. It's called "Harry Needs a Job," and won't take you more than 15 minutes to read. I sure have enjoyed talking with you, Scotchy, and appreciate your review more than you know.

This is very well written. I agree with some and disagree with some. I liked the way you showed what moved you to give out certain reviews. Nice work on this.

I am humbled, Patty. The number one reviewer on Fanstory paid a visit to this piece. It means a lot to me. I hope you catch the ones that follow. Wow! Thanks.

This is a very revealing piece of work, as you mildly try to explain your experience
as a fanstory reviewer. The piece contains good messages, but it also contains derogatory comments which mirrors your true image.

Take a look
Some was contradiction with the spell-check rejection
Some contradiction in the quarters if you stop to think on it.

Strange breed --puts these people in the animal category

Cheers, Azulazul

Thank you for taking the time to read the prologue so closely. From what I understand about your criticisms (they were not very articulate or specific), it appears there is something other than this piece that is bothering you. If that's the case, there's nothing I can do about that. Cheers.

Hullo Jaysquires ....
I really enjoyed this. You have expressed your thoughts about reviews and about writers in a very kind and understanding manner whilst emphasising the truth of what you are saying.
There are times when doing reviews becomes a bit of a nightmare,
especially when the reply you get - after spending a considerable time pointing what so obviously needs correcting - is ... "Well - you're entitled to your opinion."
I look forward to the next episode!
With love from .... Nanette Mary.

You are such a lovely lady, Nanette Mary, for all the nice things you said about my prologue. I hope you stay tuned. I hope we have a lot of fun with what is going to be wandering around the corner in a couple of weeks. Thanks so much.

jaysquires,
You made me laugh out loud and that is worth a lot of stars. I don't have the confidence yet to give anyone 6 stars. Discovering Fanstory also took me many years. I just kept taking English classes and getting "A's" in order to receive the needed critiquing that my soul needed. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your critting me. Bonhuff36

Thank you so much for your vote of confidence, Bonhuff36. It means a lot to get such positive (and a few negative, that I learned from) responses. Keep your eyes peeled for what's going to be coming in a few weeks.
