Been waiting and waiting for Chapter One of the Critter Critology...and even though it's not what you promised...that's A-OK by me! I loved reading about your experiences at Amazon and I really like that this chapter explains why you've started this and why you're where you are with this whole rating system, Jay.....so wonderful job. This chapter will keep us readers all drooling until your next posting knocks on our doors. WOW...so much fluff and mush from the "reviewers" at Amazon for your book...makes me wanna read it! By the way...no improvements needed...just flattery for you with this one! :>)

Hi-ya IndianIrish and, geez, thank you for all your kind words. I'll be working on next segment tomorrow and I promise it will be more specific and helpful. This just seemed to need to be said. Hopefully the next one WILL knock you on your drawers. Bless you, girl.

Oh have you hit the nail, and driven it in. I received a raking Pm the other day because i gave the author a four rating. I didn't reply in the Pm but replied on the review. I simply informed the irate author that if all he wanted was a five the so be it... but I would not defend a 4 in a private PM.. Anyone who reads the reviews on his poem will know why..

Thank you, again, Mzhurst for your comments and rating. I find from what I'm getting from others that I am connecting. One of these times I know I'm going to have to get specific and actually tell folks HOW I CRIT. It scares the crit out of me.
Thanks again...

Greetings again, Jay!
I enjoyed this as much as the prologue. The story about your publishing "family" was intriguing, given that I've no experience of the publishing world. It didn't give me any "when is he going to get to the point" feelings at all, I was enjoying the ride - and I can be a pretty impatient reader. I also enjoyed reading about Amazon's reviews. I've done a fair few there, but they're all on history books and half the time I'm canning them, so nobody's going to benefit from them except me, having the pleasure of venting my spleen! :)
Once again, I found that your writing ran along at a merry pace, and I like your style. I will freely admit to being one of those tainted souls who reviews for money - if I didn't have a book to support I'd do a lot less - but there are works I read and comment on for pleasure, and this is one of them. I am NOT being nice here, I am being truthful.
I spotted one typo: "rating system. very much" - just a comma instead of a full stop.
I hope you do that piece on what sort of errors are worse than others. It's a problem that bugs me.
cheers

Hi La Maitresse. Thanks, again, for the visit and spotting the typo. I haven't looked it up, but I'll do that right now and make the change. The next segment will probably deal with the "weight" this critter will put on various "errors." Thank you again, La Maitresse.

Once again I've got to agree with you. That poor girl had the right idea, a review is meant to be honest. I can't tell you how glad I am of those Amazon reviews. Perhaps she shouldn't have posted on Amazon or perhaps she saved some poor sap the money for the book, that guy had no right to go off on her as he did. A review is a review, and should always be honest. That was her opinion and not even He himself should have the right to challenge it. I love this site for the ability to give and get pretty honest reviews for work, something that when done with the best intentions, can only have good consequences for both sides. But whatever. Great essay, great sentiments. Found your book on Amazon. It does look interesting. Got any more books coming down the pipe?

Thanks, enjoi, for showing such an interest in my series of articles on critting. I appreciate it more than you know. And, you actually checked out Amazon! A little secret... With the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours," firmly entrenched with the writers on that board, you can check the books by the "reviewers" who reviewed mine and you'll more than likely find yours truly spewing juicy accolades over their artistry. There were a lot of souls sold there.

Can I be a Critter too? Jay, this is great. You sure filled me with your words of wisdom, because I did not know that, that's how many books were rated at Amazon, Etc.
Your writing is simply a joy to read, because you write it so humorous, and I love good clean humor.
I cannot wait until you are finally able to write and post chapter three, Mary.

Mary, thank you so much for your kind crit. You're already a critter. If you check out my novel, though, on Amazon, you'll see just how well the buying/sellilng game is played. I can't wait to get started on chapter 3, either. Since I learn by writing, I'm hoping I can get closer to learning how to crit.
Bless you for being so generous to me.

Well that was long
I think I reviewed your last one ...note reviewed ...I'm not a critter so can't crit
But I am a reviewer... I think... As I have now reviewed 100060 individual works
but I don't consider myself publishing material ...well I did ...but went through the proper channels here...where they soon put me straight [sighs]...now I'm under no illusion as to how good I am ...or thought I might be
And I feel I'm having more fun.. now I post and wait

Hi Doreen, and thank you for your fine review. BTW how do you know how many reviews you did? Or were you joking? Please stay tuned and read the segments to follow. I think they will be helpful. Thanks again,
Jay

nope it tells me ...how many I done...I was waiting for the accalade on 10000 but it came and went lol

Oh... You said 100,060. 10,000 is still a hunk of reading -- like back to back to back Wars and Peaces.

Have you posted your third installment yet? Because if it's as good as this, I'll read it! After all that, I didn't really get the reason why you call yourself a 'critter' and not a 'reviewer'.... but who cares? I enjoyed the story about the reviewing a lot (and my commendations go to the newbie who gave an honest review) and if I were you, I'd call myself a 'critter' just because it sounds funnier.
After this, I'll be sure to check out the original 'how this critter crits', and if I'm feeling un-lazy, I will look up your book on Amazon and see if I can find the fabled reviews! And then I'll probably put the book on my Christmas list ;-)

What a kind person you are -- in all the things you said. The one before this was the prologue. You'd get a kick out of the Amazon reviews. I try to make it a point to look at them at least every 6 months, just to remind me how GOOD I really am. Hey, thanks again. You're the best. An Amazonian 5er.
