Hi, Jay! A very informative piece! I reckon I needed that. And it's always good to upgrade my work with critters like you stepping in and pulling me out of the literary holes! I did some major changes to Perdita's language barrier so the reader would know early on the children's conversation was some mysterious waif-language. And Mastery got after me about all the adverbs so I found a new avenue for creativity there. Thanks again for all your fatherly critting.

And I thank you, Adora, for dropping by. I always appreciate your input. I am so very anxious to put this piece on hold and launch into some real meaty short stories. Thanks again...

Sorry I took so long to get back to you, Jay. I've been busy with a couple of submissions - Golden Siblings and Blackberry Man. My fingers are crossed. You may want to read my newest posting, Gaspar's Daughter. Enjoy!

Hee hee hee, I know I'm guilty of the authorial intrusion, and the inside-the-head intrusion too! Good chapter, Jay, worth all that agonised working of brain knuckles! (Well, from this viewpoint it is, I don't know what you've been reviewing...)
I particularly liked the "set up" dialogue at the end. You wouldn't believe how often I've been told that I SHOULD include such dialogue in my stuff. Like having someone say "your wife, Anne of Austria" to Louis XIII, for instance. Duh dialogue, I call that. Stupid and utterly unrealistic.
Good chapter, I look forward to the next!

Thank you, thank you La Ma for your sage crit. It's nice to know this series is proving helpful to a lot of people. While I'm writing it I feel like I'm writing from the seat of my pants. (Now, there's an image!) Sometimes when I seem most authoratative, I'm flailing along, feeling like a fraud! Thanks for validating me.

Ha, I know that fraud-about-to-be-exposed feeling! I get it whenever someone says "you're a poet" - Who? Me? Nah!

Hi jaysquires
Another one to print, re-read and ponder over, think about. You see, it may be real obvious to you but to this infant writer it isn't unless you point-in-out just like this!
Well written, well explained. Thank-you. Another lesson learnt. Marion.

I get this comment from many, Marion. But, I believe I've read your things and if I'm right, you're not an infant writer. Thank you for you support.

As usual you have written a very useful piece of advice for the maybe-once-to-be authors here at Fan Story. You describe your case very well, and I'll once again have to go back to my pieces of writing to see if I committed this crime of telling instead of showing. Thanks for your good work.

And, once again, Goejsen, your commentary is very much appreciated. It's always rewarding to have a returning critter.

Hi, I thought this very well written and your observations helpful as a writer...you are very true about so much of this content. I thought you expressed what you wanted to say in a very clear and concise way that provided good examples to the reader. I didn't notice anything jarring, keep writing, we need this type of help...cheers... rebekah
