Wow, Rod, this is a great 5-7-5 for the greek mythology prompt. I can hear the roars on the battlefields now. lol. Nicely done, good luck!

I think this was a good entry into the contest, Rod. I suppose it's an honor thing that countries can't allow to ignore, no matter the cost in money and lives. Marilyn

Thank you very much, Marilyn. Menelaus, King of Sparta and Helen?s husband, would not let her go. Indeed pride motivated him to launch a thousand ships. Rod

Yes, I'm familiar with the story/myth. I guess she was quite a woman.

Great storytelling in such a short poem. Well thought out. Astounding visual imagery. Excellent B-word alliteration running through the poem too. Clearly written as you are creative too. Great work :)

Your contest entry, Mystery Author, sums up the Trojan War nicely. Good job with the syllable count per line. Best wishes. Respectfully, Jan

These bloody battles have been long forgotten until now and here you write about it as history never goes away it is with us forever. The past haunts as battles continue, I enjoyed your entry for the contest, a perfect 5-7-5, love Dolly x

Yes, throughout history such wars have repeated themselves. Hard to believe US soldiers have been in Afghanistan longer than the Greeks were at Troy. Thanks for sharing my 5-7-5.

Can you imagine being under seige for ten years? Wow. That Helen must have quite some woman. Or a political pawn. I suppose it could have gone either way.

You bring up some interesting points about Helen. There have been novels written about her, some actually portraying her in a sympathetic light. Thank you for sharing my poem.
