Nicely done 1-5-7 poem. It is a good definiton of pen. A sharpened feather was the first pen. That is a quill dipped in ink. I think it would be hard to write with a quill.

And this certainly explains so very much, Aiona! I've never seen how a quill pen writes. It's a natural calligraphy producer. That explains why letters were formed the way they were during the time when quill pens were so predominately in use. It must be hard to write with them. You do a great job! :)

A fine collaborative haiku, Aiona--interesting fact, pen also comes from the Icelandic word for 'Stop before you write something to embarrass yourself in front of the entire reading world." I didn't, and I am!

This meets the contest requirements nicely as you deliver a structurally sound 1-5-7 with correct line and syllable count. The content is clever as pens are an item many will relate to on this site. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

I learned something new. Why would they name a writing tool after a home for pigs? They didn't. It's Latin. How did the quill pen work? They must have been difficult to use.
