I really like this poem. I like the imagery and the sadness that pervades the poem. The picture also compliments it perfectly. Beautiful word choice! Nicely done!

This meets the contest requirements splendidly with a clear connection to a loved one throughout and correct line and syllable count. This is filled with emotion and moves the reader close to tears. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

5,7,5, is on track. Departed is a gentle word so tells us much. The word memories gives little information. If you want a more powerful poem, 'memories' gives you 3 syllables with which to find some words that wake up the reader and make them want to know more.
The line 'and a solitary rose' gives us a feeling of the loneliness that the author must feel and gives a solidity of memories left.
